thank you I knew I had the details but as I said before - I knew it was him and her and never got the cert. I get everyone's certificates. Costs me a fortune! Must have thought I would save some money!

Reg, you are a wonder - thank you. I never even thought about his marriage cert!! I cannot understand why, I get everyone's certificates but you know I never got his because I know he married her and so never checked that. I checked out her details and her family but not his.
Thank you so much. Sometimes you know the answer you just need someone to remind you.

Hopefully I can get something to help me. I have my other familes back to early 1700 but he has been such a stumbling block to me.

You are looking for him pre-1881, I take it?

When did he marry? What was his address at the time?

What does the marriage cert say about his father?

Can anyone suggest where I can look for ancestors who just totally vanish. My g g grandfather is my main interest at the moment. His name is George Wilson born 1846 Coventry, Warwickshire married Mary Elizabeth Dixon. I can trace him to 1881 census but nothing before that at all. There are a few George Wilsons but none of the details match. I am now at a loss as to where to search for him.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.
