Can anyone please help??

Ive been handed some photo's by a family member, of people whom i know nothing about ( these are old photos - by the looks of the attire 1870's -1900...ish). I have a very vague idea of who these people/family members are, but not 100% and.my current family members are unsure of the identities.

The only clue i have is photographers name and area, have googled it and nothing.

I emailed them onto a local paper in the area of the photographer, in the hope they would publish them asking for anyone to come forward with any information but havent heard anything back.

Does any kind soul out there have any other ideas, as im hitting a brick wall and would really like to find out who these people are.

Thanks for taking the time to read

Take care

Hi Jackie,

If you have a vague idea about who they may be, have you looked for their names on other trees on GR?

Some of their descendants may be able to identify them in the photos.

Also, have you tried contacting the local history society for the area? There could be some help in that direction.

I have to admit that I'm dead jealous of you having those wonderful photos!!!!..............................lol

If you have the name of the photographers try looking in Kelly's or one of the other trade directories from the era, it might narrow the search down but won't of course indetify the people in the pics

There are several websites which provide dated examples of photographs. Take a look at Roger Vaughan's sites and see if you can get an accurate date span based on the format of pose, style of mount etc.

http://www.cartes.freeuk.com/time/date.htm

Once you have established an accurate date you may be able to get some details of when the photographer was in business, either through searching trade directories on the historical directories website or possibly through locating the photographer in the censuses.

There are some lists which give the years of trading for some photographers, these can be accessed via the link above
