Hi there, A friend of mine has been doing some research today and she found an ancestor of hers on the 1891 census whose occupation was a 'Haker'. Has anyone come across this occupation before or have any idea what it could be? Many thanks. Nicky

Not a Haker but a Hacker possibly, does it match up with occupations on previous or following censuses?

Hacker... Maker of hoes, axes, and other cutting tools. or a woodcutter.

My immediate thought was a mispelt/read Hawker.

Hawker, Huckster or Coster peddler - sells things on the streets, matches, laces etc

from Old Occupations website

Hawker / Huckster Peddler or street seller. Itinerant street dealer who carried his wares with him. Often used as a term of abuse
