See if you can find a link to the email address from the organisations website. Or perhaps they misstyped it when they sent you the email reply.

You could perhaps try The Department of Home Affairs Pretoria email [email protected]. Good luck you will need it! If you know what town your uncle died in I could try to find out if there is a Home Affairs Office there.

Hi Dutch

I think your best bet would be to get in touch with the National Archives in Pretoria on [email protected]. The mining areas in SA are mainly in Gauteng, which was originally the Transvaal, so this may be your best bet. They normally do a general search and if your relative was in another province they would be able to locate it and advise you who to contact. You will probably need to follow up with them from time to time as they don't always reply immediately. If you let me have the full names and date of birth of your relative I can perhaps look it up on Ancestry24.co.za or you could do a search yourself. The only problem is that subscribers have access to more records and I do subscribe so maybe I can help you. It's not a wonderful site in comparison with the UK sites and the info is limited, but I can give it a try if you like. If you prefer you could email the info to me on [email protected].

Hi, have just read Joan's reply and think that is your best option - it seems as if she will be able to help you. Unfortunately I don't have access to the Ancestry site. Sorry.
