It still doesn't explain why we can't find him in 1901. I've checked every possibility of names Francis/Frank/ Valentine and Mole/Ayers. I've checked the Canadian 1901 census, the Ellis Island site in case they went to America first.
Nothing, nada, zilch!

Hi Margaret,

That's correct!

It's a possibility that Frank is the father.

or it could be that he and his 2ed took the child in as there own IE Adoption and that may be the reason that Harriet is on the Attestion Papers as Frances Valentine's mother.

I'd be really interested to hear what the birth certificate tells you, Priscilla.
If I remember correctly Francis was born before Frank & Harriet married but after Frank's first wife had died and the name Mole was the first wife's maiden name. AND there was a step-daughter from the first marriage named Mole!
Fascinating!

Hi Margaret,

Yes thats the one

As you know he was Registerd as Francis Valentine Mole and appears in the Attestation papers 1916

I was Trying to find out what surname he was under in 1901 and also find out who he was living with.

Harriet was Franks 2ed wife I dont think she was Francis Vs mother .

I know he said she was on the Attestation papers but i think that may have been a fib. I have sent for the birth Certificate of Francis V to make sure.

Regards

Priscilla

Isn't this the chap that we found a while ago enlisting for WW1 in Canada?
He was Francis Valentine Ayers, born 21 Feb 1898 in Reading, England. Mother, Harriet Ayers in Stamford, Ontario.
he's also on the 1911 Canadian census under the name Frank Ayers with parents Frank & Harriet and siblings Ernest, Ethel & Dora.
