Thanks chris - I also posted on "trying to find" and hopefully should be able to solve this riddle soon. William was probably divorced from one wife, but had children by both at the same time!

Denise

Do you or your contact have his birth and/or marriage certificate?

Having a quick look at the 1901 using 1894 +/-2 years birthplace Plymouth there are 2 Williams (admittingly with incorrect middle initials) and 1 Alfred (the one you have found).

With information from birth/marriage certificates it should be fairly straight forward to work out which is the correct line......Assuming bigamy wasn't involved :)

William is my husband's grandfather, born in Plymouth. Unfortunatley someone else has already claimed him and he has a different wife & set of children on their tree. He could be a bigamist of course, but can anyone find two with such a name? I can only find one. Births register Jan-March 1894 p127
1901 Census 28 St Judes Road, Plymouth listed as Alfred V.

Any help gratefully received!
