in my tree.Is this another name for a name or is it a nick name.Anyone else with a Queenie? Annie

I think it's a name in it's own right.

Maybe a Victoria ( or other Queen's name )would have it as a nickname though ?

On the BMD's site there are a few Queeney or Queene...Have you looked for a birth for your Queenie

It can be a name in its own right but quite often refers to the queen who was on the throne at the time.

Grannie, what was her surname and when was she born? She may not have been registered if before 1875 when registration became compulsory. As has been mentioned, there are a fair number of Queenie birth registrations.

I have two Queenies in my tree. Both were their registered names. (Both were post Queen Victoria!)

My husbands Grandma was known as Queenie and it turned out to be a nickname because she bossed all the family around - her real name was Rose, which I discovered from her marriage certificate!

I have a Queenie but her real name was Evelyn I don't know why she was called this

Can't find the danged thread now, but there was definitely one hereabouts in the last couple of months where we found that the Queenie was in fact born Victoria. ... They had immigrated to Canada, as I recall. This is where we still celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday by taking a day off, of course. ;)

So while it's a name in its own right, it's certainly worth looking for a birth under the reigning Queen's name if there's no Queenie to be found.
