Please could anyone tell me which is the most accepted spelling - West Hoathley or West Hoathly? Google brings up countless entries for both.

I have a gggg grandfather from there and I believe it is West Hoathly. Seems to be this way on Old Maps too.

The Ley lea ly bit just means field or area of land. at one time the ley was pronounced LIE as in Ardingly maybe thats how we got the saying ... the lie of the land?
