I have a marriage cert. whic under the heading 'Residence at the time of Marriage' states EMMANUEL for both the bride and groom.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could mean, by the way the marriage took place in Emmanuel Church, Parish of Camberwell.

Is it an early marriage certificate? I would think it might just mean "of this parish" which is sometimes put on early certificates instead of an address.

1881

By that time I would have expected an address to be given. Can't really come up with any other explanation. Sorry.

They appear to be a very poor family and I wondered if they were perhaps living on church property for the poor.

I'm not sure if they are them though because there has never been a father listed with them and I'm not even sure if the birth certs. I have are my family.
The only certain thing I have is the marriage showing him as Charles William Parsons aged 25, father as John Arnold no profession given (I suspect he may have been made up anyway)
