After 1911 or so the Mother's surname appears on birth reg sites like freebmd...and ancestry. Get someone to look for the births of her children...if you post the names here i am sure someone will look for you.

Registration district of Loddon was....Loddon, until 1938...

Loddon is south Norfolk - not far from the Suffolk border.

Sweet little place - I paid a flying visit to the library there a couple of years ago - and checked out the war memorial in the churchyard.

I have an Ann in my tree who was also described as Fanny on one census - I think it was a pet name.

If she's your grandmother then her maiden name will be on the birth certificate of either your mother or father (whichever one is her child).

You can look up the reference for either of these birth certificates on Ancestry (or if you don't have access, then ask for a look up).

I think you will find it is Loddon (different spelling).

Have you got a birth cert for any of her children? This should give her married and maiden name (assuming she was in fact married).

My grandmother was born in Norfolk,at a place called Lodden which I think is just south of Norwich. How can I find out her maiden name.? I cannot locate the marriage anywhere so cannot use the marriage certificate. She is listed as "Fanny" but also "Hannah" on the info I do have. Am trying to get grandfather's birth certificate but need a few more details first. Is this the best way to go or does anyone know Lodden?
Thanks
