Middle Name on Birth CErt.

Would a middle name most definately be entered on a birth cert.?

I know they sometimes get left off marriage and death certs. but would I be safe to bypass any birth entries that don't have a middle name if I know for certain the person concerned has one.

My research is a very common name and when most of the christian names are Charles it does make life very difficult so I was hoping to bypass those without middle names if possible to cut the amount of possibles.

Off to bed now, will check back tomorrow.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Linda
Sometimes a child would be registered and before the christening was held another name could have been added.
No hard and fast rule.

I think it's a 50-50 situation.

Letely, most birth I've been looking up have NOT had the middle name shwoing on the registration ......... or they have had a different initial.

Yet a couple of those have been such unusual surnames, and everything else has matched, that it just has to be them.

So, I would say, NO you cannot ignore any birht entries that do not have the middle name.

sorry!!!

One man on my tree was christened, registered and married twice, ....all with just one forename.
When he married for the 3rd time, he suddenly acquired a middle name, -Granville.
Where that came from is anyone's guess but other supporting evidence means it is definitely the same person.

Sorry, ....your search is not going to be as easy as you hoped.

I have several instances of children being registered with one forename............then having a second 'baptismal' name added later.

When they married, both names were recorded on the certs.........

My mother had an extra middle name added at her baptism. I have her original birth cert and this is recorded as a note on the right hand side. I do not know whether this shows up on the GRO refs as I have never looked but will do so now and pop back to let you know.

Just checked on Ancestry - no - her additional middle initial does not show. So, it looks as if you need to consider all possibilities. Sorry.
