Trying to find John Born C 1827 and his wife Catherine Born C 1825 in 1861 census but looked on several sites and can't find them. They were born in Ireland. Children are Jeremiah, b 1847 Wales, Julia b 1853 Kent, John b 1851 Kent, Catherine b 1856 Kent and James b 1858 Kent. John was a tailor in 1851 census and 1871 census and they ere living in Kent in both 1851 and 1871, anyone who can help would be really grateful.

Yes, can find them in 1851 and 1871 but not 1861....must be mistranscibed, or had they gone to Iraland for a bit
William was born 1860 hereford so they were proabaly still in that place...

Hi again dawn
What were you hoping to find from the 1861 census?
If you don't know Catherine's maiden name there is probably enough evidence to find the birth reg of one of the children and then get the cert...
Good luck

On 1871 it looks as if Mary Anne aged 10 was born in Ireland so it may be that they were there at the time of the 1861 census ...

You could find out mum's name - maybe - by looking at the parish registers on line at Cityark - Medway Council's site. Mind you, if the family were Catholic they might not be on there - but it's worth a look and it will save you £7.

Just had a thought - if first child was born in Wales - they may have married in Wales ... worth a rummage on FreeBMD.

I did notice that Catherine's age was different between 1851 and 1871 - 26 and 56. Was she two years' older or 12 years' older?

Have you found them in 81, 91 and 01 ??

Hutsie

Hutsie Report 21 Jan 2008 18:34

No, I haven't found them in 81 - again seems they disappear, could have died. Mary Ann Sullivan born c 1861 was my GGM, she married Harry Jackson in 1876 - just starting to trace this side.

Thanks for all your help, just trying to find them in 1861 because was hoping that it would state county in Ireland for John or Catherine. I will obtain birth certificate and find mum's name that way. thanks everyone Dawn
