can any help how do i find when people got married when i only have the persons name and date of birth. can anyone help ?

It depends on what years you are looking at...........

Give us some idea of when...............then we can give relevant advice.

A general rule of thumb is start at 20 years after their birth date and check each quarter for 20 years!! If we are talking way back, people used to marry as young as 12 so this will give you an idea!!

It is a long job trawling through each quarter per year but extremely rewarding.

Hi Tracy
Have you thought about using Free Bmd or local area BMD's in Cheshire we have a great one. You could also try using census records to trace the family.

If it is a name like John Smith it can be fairly hard to track down. If the couple had a child/children that you can work back from then buying the birth certificate of one of the children will give you the mothers maiden/other names - then you can see if you can find a likely marriage using the indexes.
