After reading this thread, I should really get OH out of the chair and get HIM to read it, just so he knows I`m not the only one totally addicted to this time consuming, entertaining, most intresting hobby i`ve ever had, to think we`re all lying in bed at nights going through census images and name variations in our heads.....it makes me chuckle, and my own tree aside I just love reading the boards, picking up snippets of info and helping where I can, to what is probably the largest set of faceless friends any of us will ever have. I sometimes think of it as a bit of an education, i`m far more intrested now in History and Geography than I ever was at school., my teachers would be so pleased lol!

It is a very addictive hobby, know exactly what Joan means when it takes over from counting sheep, just cant get it out of my head, censuses, dates, places, what ifs, all the best ideas come to me when I have packed it all away and have just snuggled up in bed, then it starts all over again.

I love it all but have been doing it for a good few years, just when the odd census was out and bmd on the internet.

The earliest branch I have got is to just before 1600, all searched through church records, makes a good excuse for a weekend or couple of nights away though,we have stayed in guest houses all over the country while searching record offices and luckily I have somehow persuaded my OH to be almost as interested in it as me, sometimes when I get home from work he will shout come and see what I have found.

Its a very interesting, but sometimes annoying hobby, would be a lot easier if they didnt tell so many lies!!!

I so agree, I am hooked. It can send you up thu the clouds when you have a breakthru and into the deepest despair when it all goes wrong and find out you have chased a red herring for a couple of years. And yes sometimes you don't even care who's dead people you look for.
By and large I am very at home with the dead folk I look for. They do not judge me, and they do not answer back, even when I wish they could.

Signing off now - starting to feel pathetic

I am with you there.
Genealogy is an addiction, once hooked your trapped.
It keeps us off the street and out of trouble is what I tell my hubby.

I love it I feel so good when I find the next piece or help someone else find theirs.

Cheers

Yes!

Then I get really involved doing bits of other people's too and it's easy to forget they're not mine.

Your family tree, do you find that it sometimes drives you up the wall, and you sometimes spend too long on it, yet now you've started you can't stop? If the answers 'yes' then thank God I'm not alone!

Off to bed now, night night.
