Good one. I'll tuck it away with Francis Pukes Montoger and Mercy ... uh ... Fricker, Tucker, whatever her real name was, not to come right out and say what Ancestry called her (and many others of her tribe and others with related spellings).

Sounds like that guy belonged in a rodeo. ;)

Excellent, Woody!

I hadn't really investigated it, I must admit -- I ran across it in searching for someone else's ancestor, and it turned out to be someone not connected anyway, so I just thought I'd collect it for my stupid Ancestry tricks box. ;)

Thanks!

Have'nt found them yet in 1861 still looking. Henry their son had moved to Dalston, London by 1855 so it says on his marriage which took place in Scotland..
Corn Trader is a very strong possibility

Thanks everyone, I have found Isabella in the 1841 minus hubby David.
They were living in Newcastle then .
I agree it sounds like hubbys occupation but not sure what.
I would be tearing my hair out with Wuter To The Sigret too

I'm no help, but I'll trade you this one in 1881:

Name: James Alexander Haldane
Age: 36
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1845
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Sara Jan
Gender: Male
Where born: Edinburgh, Mid Lothian
Registration Number: 159
Registration district: Keith
Civil Parish: Keith
Town: Keith
County: Banffshire
Address: Mid Street No 149
Occupation: Wuter To The Sigret <<<

Someone with the same name a generation or two before him was a divine / minister of the tabernacle, so maybe it's a, uh, sigret code ...

Age 38 Leith North Midlothian
One of her sons is a ship broker and and 4 years later her husband was down on a marriage as a Merchant

ErikaH Report 28 Jan 2008 22:09

The lady didn't have an occupation.........she was the wife of the man whose occupation that was. I'll take a wild stab at Corn Merchant!!

As Ancestry doesn't have the images, you will need to access scotlands people if you wish to unravel the mystery

Have you located the couple in any other census?
