Bc , yep, its under the same thing as fruit juice, believe it or not!!. So I guess its because of the sugar content?

Taff Report 17 Jul 2008 11:26

Roxanne, replacing garlic for salt does really work!(so get some parsley to munch after).
also lemon juice is a great one as well, just add a few drops to a glass of water!.

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 17 Jul 2008 11:27

Just to add you can buy Garlic tablets but they dont have the same potency,so you would have to take a bucket full to give you the same results.

Hi Taff, very true:-)

Mick its not just heart attacks its strokes as well. Mine was 9.4 and I got it down to five with hardly eating anything but its gone up again now to 9 again. My doctors says this proves its genetic (father had a stroke) and that diet will only bring down chloresterol by 15% (mind you he was desperate for me to go on statins). He eventually put me on a low 20mg dose and within a month it came down to 6 (quite impressive)

OH has just started statins. He had a TIA in March and was advised to reduce cholesterol by diet. There followed two months of purgatory as we stripped down our regulart GI diet even more and saw his cholesterol go up markedly. Not diet then...could it be anyting to do with his appalling family history?

Took his first statin last night - wait and see

Pauline have you had yours tested??

Ron2

Ron2 Report 17 Jul 2008 21:56

Mine was 5.2 in May. Yours is too high Mick. Then near end of May I had heart attack so had to have angioplasty and then a stent fitted. Now on a statin every NIGHT - just to remind those of you on Statins that you take them at night. Beware of side effects with statins - can be bad and you might need to have a lower dosage or a different brand.

Best of luck mate

Or drink grapefruit juice!!

I'm on atorvastatin, and last result was 3.3.
Have been diabetic for just over 3 years, and when I was first tested for cholestoral, it was 5.0. Been on statin for 2 and half years, and had no probs yet.

Also, if you are fiven the antibiotic erythomicin (sp) - check you can still take your statins. With mine - you cannot.

Mac - you can buy Jacobs Creek over there?

I am impressed, - and yes I expect its a bit cheaper here!

Mick from the Bush Report 21 Jul 2008 09:19

Well- I went to the quack today.

He says my reading is high,
but because of my healthy lifestyle (he he he),
he says I am low risk.

So he doubled the dose of my Thyroxine tablets
-he still reckons if my thyroid fires up a bit more
it can burn up all the cholesterol!
What a relief! - no cholesterol tablets!

Mick,

Drink pure organic Noni juice, if comes from down under.

My OH loves his food and his booze and Noni does lower his cholesterol.

It is a bit expensive and tastes bladdy awful but well worth it. Although it should be cheaper in Australia.

Lindy ;)))))))))))
