BC similar to what happened to me once when I saw someone I hadn't bumped into for a couple of months.
Me: Hi How are you?
Her: Fine thanks, how are are your family?
Me: They're good thank you. How's your Mum? I haven't seen her about in ages.
Her (after a gap of about a minute): Hadn't you heard? She collapsed and died in the street when she was shopping about 2 months ago.
Me (in my head): PLEASE LET THE GROUNDOPEN UP AND SWALLOW ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since then I have religiously read the local newspaper!

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 20 Jan 2009 16:08

Don't worry BC it's happening to us all! Must be as they had a bit on the One Show last night about people and memory problems, apparently they did a survey of several people, and then made them eat blueberries every day for three months, and lo and behold, their memories improved. This has already been tested on rats and humans, but fgs, the price of blueberries, how many of us can afford those every day!
I think it's just the stress of daily life making us forget things, nothing to do with age! It's just a number!

When I bumped into a friend I hadn't seen for a while. How are you, said I brightly...and how's your little dog? She stared at me for at least 50 seconds and said quietly....you remember, my doggie died last summer...When she saw my horrified face, she started to laugh (thank goodness) but I am really worried now that this is the beginning...*sobs....

Old and Senile BC XXXX
