I hate the word BASICALLY

Well Basically I got out of bed this morning
Well Basically I have two Children
Well Basically I had three Meals today..

Grrrrrrrrrrrr it makes me mad
Very American but is used more and more here in Oz
I get really riled up when I hear it. especailly when it's ever other sentence

Also when you are watching a Tennis Match and they say things like " he has had 6 aces THUS far" or "THUS far he has beaten his opponent 3 Times"
What happened to the word THIS far I know THUS is in the dictionary but I can't stand the word.

Couple of Swear words I absolutely hate F word and C word

I totally agree with you on that one Pixie, my husband says that a lot and at times I feel like punching him!!!!!!!!! (He knows that I hate the expression...so does try not to say it too often!)

I'm on a roll now...I also hate it when people say "Oh Bless", or "Bless him/her.............. have we all turned into the Pope!!

Not half as pointless as the f word Sue in my opinion!

Not keen on 'laters' instead of see you later.

Hate the F word, tolerate and have been known to use the s word, used a lot in America in the 80s and OH used to work for Americans.

Depends who uses it but don't like being called Dear by anyone under 30, it is patronising.

Kids, yes a bit aggravating but I suppose quicker to say and write than children.

when people used to use the term Mate my Mum used to say it was "common".

I suppose it depends where you live but some terms of speech are used in particular areas. when I lived in the Forest of dean in the 70s it wasn't 'mate' but 'owd butt'

The words I find are amusing at the moment are when a presenter/celebrity answers with " yeay, yeay, yeay, yeay" I've noticed it happens a lot.

Some other phrases will come and take their place in due time so "see ya later Alligator" ;O)

I hate the terms '24/7 'and 'year on year' - for goodness sake, 'year after year' is only one more syllable - life isn't soooo short is it, and is anyone so very 'important' that an extra syllable or two takes up too much of their self determined 'precious' time?
Also detest the way reporters seem to be using Americanisms like 'He was hospitalised'.
Oh and my offspring are children, not kids as well!

Call me " darlin' " and see what I call you!

Why are blonde haired women called 'blondes'? I have never heard a man with no hair called a 'bald'.

'The wife ' or "the missus" is degrading, sounds chauvinistic.
The s word doesn't bother me,but I do hate the F word, and even more the c word,I cringe when I hear them.I also hate all the swearing in movies,
no wonder our young ones are growing up with foul mouths! Using the word kids doesn't bother me at all,I say it all the time. I hate to be called Ma'am-that really irritates me-another Americanism we Aussies can do without! Also add/ress, with the emphasis on the add-I say a dress- not slang,I know, but still annoying.
I'm sure there's more...
Margot.
