Small steps.....first 'solids' for a month today, a few sips of squash and a small tub of ice cream, with the promise of a cuppa to follow. Enjoyed! Still has a drip feed in place, but this means that there's 'space' in the throat which may help using the voice tube on the trachy. We'll see.
A new cannula had to be inserted today, and the doc's had not succeeded when I left, but it's the only way to get the anti-b's in, so hope all has gone 'well'.
About it for today.....very much "carpe dium-ish" really.

Rgds,
R.

Another suggestion R as a short term measure. If you can get into Daff's craft bits and pieces she will have sheets of letters. She might be able to spell words out by pointing to the letters. tiring and time consuming but at least she will be able to communicate.

Or how about maki8ng her some flash cards with common words in like "Drink" "How are the cats?" "I am fed up!" etc etc.

oh R,,what about some Fuzzy Felt letters ,couple of packs with boards should give enough letters for Daffy to have her say.

.some ending with ss even.}}

if her little people visit they will have great fun and Daff would really enjoy it I'm sure till shes more vocal again real soon.

TC xx to you all.

Good news that daff is now trying to communicate. Very frustrating for her though. It can be difficult to speak with a trachy, and even then difficult for some people to understand the speech. Good suggestions re writing, cant think of any better. Keep plenty of paper available for all Daffs questions! Hugs to you both.

Jane Report 10 Nov 2010 09:57

How frustrating it must be not to be able to communicate properly.Poor Daff.It will come ,as will her strength.As for her doing sign language I can just imagine some of the signs she would do lolol
I hope today is less stressful for both of you xx
