Jude are you not going with him? We could of met up if you were.

Linda glad you had a good day.

Ann you mention about complaining, there was a letter in our local paper on Thursday from a woman who lives near RAF Shawbury, (Where Wills and Harry have been) complaining about the Red Arrows flying over. They landed at Shawbury in preparation for the Cosford airshow. She asked that next time it happens they should inform people that they are going to fly over. I think the woman must be loopy because there had been adverts in the papers, on local radio and tv, all advertising the show.
My hubby said that if she didn't like it why did she move under the flight path of a RAF station in the 1st place.

Linda, glad you and your OH had a good day out, wish I could have seen it. I am probably one of the few people who don't complain about the planes screaming through the valley in the Lake District, love to see and hear them.

Ann in Glos
Thank you so much for putting this thread up. I have just returned from a fantastic day out with my husband.
The flying was amazing and especially the Vulcan which flew in from Europe we were told.
We also saw the Tornado(I think ) and some amazing helicopter flying too.

I wouldn't have known about if you hadn't put this thread up. My husband had a great fathers day too. One he hadn't planned on.

Thanks again
Linda :o) XxX

Ron and Nadia did you see it? Hubby was working so we couldn't go, but oldest daughter works in the garden centre at the end of the runway and was working yesterday, she had been to talking to a customer in the morning who was going into the show and half way during the afternoon he came back into the shop and saying that he had to leave early and gave her his ticket, so when she finished work she was able to go in and join her sister who had been there all day. (she got into the ground at 9am in the morning). They were flabbergasted at the size of the plane and the noise of the engines and they had an amazing day. They can't wait till Fairford, and of course the plane will be taking off and landing as well.

Our family have a great fondess for the Vulcan.

My mother worked in electonics and for many years worked at Avro's in Woodford, Cheshire. She is, still to this day, very proud to have worked on the Vulcan.

Thank you Brian for putting the dates on the thread...we will arrange to take mum back to Woodford in September to see the old bird once again. What a treat for her and me....she will be 88 later this year.

Linda

Edit....Ooops sorry I forgot my manners Ann...hi and thank you for putting this thread up. x

Update – Friday 12th June 2009

After fixing a few minor technical problems discovered in ground testing, XH558 finally took off from Bruntingthorpe today on an air test. After the air test, we start a series of crew work-up sorties with the aim of making our first public display this Sunday 14th June at the RAF Cosford Airshow.

I lie in Wolverhampton, 5 miles from Cosford, according to tonights local paper, it's not certain to fly at Cosford as it's got to pass it's flight test first.

Maybe it will be there as well Mac, that is July isn't it. Apparently Fairford is by advanced tickets only this year to try and alleviate the traffic problems, tickets for specific days and numbers controlled.

I too remember them as a small girl living in RAF quarters in Lincolnshire and the noise was really powerful.Dad used to work on them. Disappointed it didn't fly at Cosford Air Show last year as that was the main reason we went but fully appreciate the work and dedication that has gone into getting it up again.

Also remember seeing this impressive aircraft fly past our house when it made an appearance at RAF Henlow in the 80s.

My mum and dad live at the bottom of Waddington hill and we used to get treated to regular fly overs by Tornados and occasionally Vulcans and the brilliant Red Arrows, some people used to moan on about how noisy they are but being an RAF brat and then a serving PM (PMRAFNS) I absolutely love them. By dad's younger cousin Bill was a Vulcan pilot at one time--fabulous craft!!

It's also advertised as being at Waddington air show again this year. I was so dissapointed last year, as I went Sunday, and it didn't get off the ground.
