I am just popping in to wish the upside downers Happy New Year. I saw a quick glance of the Sydney fireworks on the news.
I have spent an enjoyable day with my sister and brother, plus our OH's. We are now back home and getting ready to go out. It is freezing out there and to be honest I would rather just stay here. We have a twenty minute walk to the place we are going.
I hope that Berona is feeling better today and Alison too, as we haven't heard from you for a few days.

I think that you are wise to stay in Diane. I am just about to go and get changed, though I am loathe to take my nice warm fleece off.
I hope everyone enjoys them selves in whatever way you celebrate the New Year. I wish you all well for the coming year.
OK, off I go, muttering "I will feel festive, Iill feel festive, I will........."

Happy New Year to all my friends. You have all become dear to me and I wish you all you could wish for yourselves in this new year.
I've just realised that this thread has been going for nearly 6 months - amazing.
We ended up going to our daughter's for a bbq and saw the New Year in with our family and some of their friends. We went along rather reluctantly as we had decided to have a quiet evening at home but our daughter rang and asked us to just have dinner with them - we stayed:-))

Diane, it was very quiet here.
We stayed in and I broke with tradition bt staying up until 1230am as I was watching a film on TV.
OH went to bed at 1030.
No sound of any parties locally which is very unusual.
Stay warm
Happy New Year to all in the UK. Enjoy!

Good Morning Sue
Happy New Year to you and your family.
I hope that you enjoyed the family meal last night.
This month marks my first anniversary of GR membership, and as you say, this Thread has been going for half that period.
I really enjoy the chat on here and have broken one of my own internet rules.
I always said that I would never join in any internet 'chat' as it is there for the whole world to see. That is still the case with GR but somehow it seems different.
Very philosophical!......the combination of a late night and an early morning :0))

Hello Pat, Allan and Diane.
Allan - I remember saying to my son years ago that I didn't believe you could make friends with people over the internet. He's actually met a couple of people and he told me that they were just as they were on the internet. I was sceptical until I started "chatting" to a group of people on here and discovered one of them was a distant rellie of OH's. When we went to the UK last year we met up with a few of my new friends and they were just as I thought they would be. Warm, friendly and very welcoming. That was when I met Jean and she will always have a special place in our hearts.
I truly didn't expect to meet so many wonderful people when I started this thread. It was just a bit of fun but look at what's happened. I'm so very glad I put this thread up and I feel blessed to have made so many good friends.

Well our country may have been the first to see the New Year in - but I was too tired and missed it. I had been thinking about all past New Years the good and the not so good and decided that too many people had passed on and enought of these thoughts so went to bed to read and by 11.20pm I had snuggled down to sleep.
It has been a strange year - to quote Charles Dickens 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times' and there have certainly been some ups and downs. BUT on the good side I decided to visit the chat boards for the first time since my membership on Genes - up until 2009 I had only worked on my tree etc. Not quite sure when I came on here - but I did think at the time - I hope my Aussie connections will gain me entry Sue as I liked the sound of this thread. Course now I am all over the place - and on one occasion very recently I too got hot under the collar - after reading one chaps criticism of genes and he got howled down by quite a few, after my comments he replied - with just enough time for me to read it in where he said he was sorry to have upset so many and he was going to leave genes then and there and whoosh the thread was gone.
Well not long now Pat and Big Ben will be chiming. We had a decade of events played on the TV earlier in the evening - most of them sad or horrific etc. Prior to that was the Royal Variety Performance 2009.
Best wishes to you Linda in Herriot Country and OH and family and the allotment, and to you Tec and the Duchess and all your little animal friends and the birds with their friendly squirrel, and to our Liverpool Lass Diane - hope you have a better year and are rehoused happily.
Well my Australia friends - Carole, Allan, Sue, Berona, Janet and our Alison hope you have a good year for as they already seem to be saying twentyten.
From the ever so non festive Persey.... I forgot to even have a drambuie so how sad is that?

Sue, I couldn't agree more, and one day I would at least like to catch up with some of the people from Australia who post on here, to 'put a face to the name' as it were.
Many thanks for starting this thread: it has been, and long may it continue to be, a wonderful place.
Regards
