LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 Jan 2010 09:52

There doesn't seem to be any one around yet.
I don't think Diane was here over the weekend, I was wondering how she got on with the noise meter. It sounds an odd thing to say that I hope the neighbours were really noisy, but you know what I mean.

Good morning Linda:-)

I know what you mean by Diane's noisy neighbors, I think Diane may have been having trouble with her internet before the weekend (I may be wrong - I'll blame age, everyone else does)

Our weather here has been unbelievable, we have had lots of rain, today. There has even been snow at Falls Creek!! Ive had to use the ducted heating today - its crazy weather!!

LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 Jan 2010 10:15

The weather is milder here, we only have one small bit of snow left in the garden. I can see the remains of a snowman next door.
The thaw has meant that the river has been incredibly high, it had filled the over flow area at the top end of the town near us, so I don't know if it caused any flooding further down, I will find out this afternoon when I go into the centre

Linda..

Do you think you will get more snow this winter season?

Our weather will be heating up again before the weekend, so we will be back to using the air-con by then!!

Hello ladies. Ridiculous, isn't it? Snow near you Carole, and we had a lovely hot day of 28. The Poms won't believe us!

Just popping in before closing down for the night. I've decided to have an early one. Enjoy your day, Linda.....Carole, enjoy what's left of yours!
Yes, I hope Diane's neighbours were noisy too, but I'll bet they weren't even home! In that case, I would be having a party of my own and making a din....a big din!!!

Hi Berona

Glad you had nice weather today:-)

The snow was at Falls Creek, a couple of hours drive away from where I am.

Sleep well :-)

Sleep well Berona,
We are forecast for more snowy weather mid week Carole, but I hope that they have got it wrong as we have arranged to go and see OH's aunt on Wednesday, she hasn't even got her Christmas presents from us yet as it is about an hour and a halfs drive from here.

Although it is winter, we don't normally get snow at this time of year.March is the more likely time. I have even known it snow on my birthday in mid April

Carolee

Carolee Report 18 Jan 2010 11:02

Well I hope the snow holds off until after your visit:-)

I'm going to Dalesford on Friday, its about an hours drive from here. My daughter is going for another horse trail ride, while she is doing that I intend to pay a visit to some of the antique shops there. It should be a nice day, weather wise! Hopefully I'll pick up a few bargains:-))

LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 Jan 2010 11:10

I hope that she does well again Carole.
I love browsing antique shops, but the prices they ask are silly. It is amazing how much of a reduction you can get if you haggle hard and walk away. They seem to buy the things from auction sales at a fraction of the cost, or from house clearances of course.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 Jan 2010 11:13

I am in grr mode because I am trying to book a holiday and all I keep getting is an answer phone message telling me that the office is now closed and will be open again on Monday at 9.30am. Well it is Monday 11.12 am and she still isn't answering her phone. I despair, doesn't she want any business?

Carolee

Carolee Report 18 Jan 2010 11:22

Obviously she doesn't, that's so annoying!!
Ive been having the same problem trying to get a sparkie in to do a few TV points.
One guy I spoke to told me - because it was too hot, he didn't want to climb into the roof, "I'm too busy" he said!! Grrr I know how you feel:-))

Do you have another travel agent in your area you could try?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 Jan 2010 11:43

This one isn't actually in our area. She runs her own travel business along with her husband. I discovered her a few years ago and she is good because she takes the time to get to know her clients and she suggests places which she is certain we will enjoy. She puts packages together for us. I must say that everywhere she has sent us has been spot on. When we do it ourselves, it often looks good on paper, but we haven't been as satisfied.

It sounds like we are always going on holiday, which we are lol, but I make no apologies for that. Neither of us come from privileged backgrounds, we have worked really hard all of our lives to get where we are and now that we are retired, we intend to enjoy ourselves while we can. No one knows when ill health will strike, so it is no good waiting until we are too old. Since OH retired,we have been rather tied by looking after mum, which is how it should be. I don't begrudge one second of that time, but now she is sadly no longer here, it means we have fewer constraints,so we intend to make the most of it while we can.

Sleep well Carole,
I had better dash round and tidy up a bit before OH gets back from the gym, I wouldn't want him to think that I had been doing nothing all morning!

Carolee

Carolee Report 18 Jan 2010 11:54

In that case Linda, try to stick with your usual travel agent if you can:-))

You both fully deserve to enjoys yourselves now, Linda!!!
I agree totally with you, there:-)) As a lovely lady said here a little while ago, Life's too short.

Good night, Linda:-))

Persephone Report 18 Jan 2010 20:10

That's what we should be doing Linda, more travelling, but we want to get our house done up and that takes time and money so we had no what I call a holiday at all last year.

I had a good look at the antiques shops when I was in Daylesford. I have to say I really like the secondhand bookshop down by the water - but that is more of a winter evening retreat as he makes a nice bowl of soup and toast there as well.

Was my youngest SIL's birthday yesterday and he says that Wellington was foggy in the morning then sunny later and it was nice of Prince William to be in Wellington for his birthday.

We are supposed to be having rain but it a lovely sunny day - trouble is later it will get so humid - it can be 20 degrees here but with 62% humididty makes it feel like more than 30 degrees. It was very sticky heat here last night and we had two fans going in our bedroom.

I think we will all be relieved Diane when you get these noisy neighbours of yours sorted out once and for all.

Perse.

Diane Report 18 Jan 2010 20:24

Hi Perse
me too hun, Council will have sent a letter to tennant to inform her that the property will be monitored ( stupid if you ask me ) but that is the law, so that is probably why it has been so quiet, the monitor is suppose to be going back tomorrow but guess what when they come for it I wont be in, I don't intend to let them pick it up untill I have enough evidence lol.
How's thing's with you today, well I hope ( except for the awfull humid heat )
My youngest son is leaving home on Wednesday to move to Nottingham, it will be the first time I have lived on my own without any of my children around. I know it has to happen eventually but it will be weird not haveing some-one around ( just me and my cat ).

Hello everyone - hope you are all well.

Again - crazy weather. Berona who is only 1 1/2 hours away had a warm day yesterday and our day was cool and quite chilly overnight and this morning. By the weekend our temps will be up again.

Linda - that's how we feel about this stage of our lives. We are not wealthy by any means but we are comfortable and can afford to do things that we couldn't when we were young with a family. We started travelling overseas whenever we could while OH was still working. OH had seen his parents wait for "one day" and that didn't come as his mother fell ill and passed away when only 67. The heart went out of his dad and he never travelled again except for a quick trip to England to visit his son and his brother. So where possible we indulge ourselves without being silly. We both have good health but you never know when that can change. My parents travelled extensively and there aren't many places they haven't been. Mum said that dad told her when he was a little boy he would dream of going to Katmandu - and he realised that dream before he became ill.

Diane - we knew that your lovely neighbours would be quiet all evening. It sounds silly to warn them about the monitor but it all comes down to "entrapment". Hopefully they'll go back to their noisy ways before the monitor goes back.

Persey - Prince William is arriving here around noon. He seems to be more approachable than the older members of the Royal family - down to his mother I should think.

Hi Everyone,
Perse, I'm spending money on getting my home done up. It was forced on me when I had to have a new bathroom. I'm having my bedroom refurbished and on Saturday I got a new bed. When I was paying for it I thought I could have gone to Tenerife with that! i intend to stay for the rest of my life so it's worth spending the money.
