Hello, Janet and Diane:-))

My grand-daughter is right into the "dolly" thing at the moment. We have tea-parties and I often have to hold a blanket wrapped baby doll. I may not have mentioned it although it's no secret - my grand-daughter has Down's Syndrome. My daughter works very hard with her and the only problem is that her speech isn't great. She also didn't walk until she was 2 1/2 but all other milestones have been reached. She is very good at jigsaws but apparently what the preschool is very pleased to see is that she is "role-playing" hence the tea parties etc. She also loves dancing and singing. My daughter has been advised to enrol her in a dance class for littlies and she has done so. She is such a blessing to us and she's lucky to have 2 brothers who don't see any difference in her and fully expect her to do everything they do - and she does:-))

Hello Diane

My friend was born in Nottingham Hospital - it had just been built (especially for her arrival LOL). I gave you misinformation yesterday her grandad the Sherrif's name was Birkenshaw. Her dad is Bassford and he comes from Nottingham (pronounced Nottnum so I am told) as well.

Oh I do hope this all works out for you Diane - it is a worry. If not you will have to take to playing the bagpipes when they are sleeping.

Persey..

Well 28 sounds very nice to me..:))). Thunderstorms also would be nice without the bush fires tho...Think of all those animals getting some relief from the heat !

I have kept in touch with a few relies that i have found on the GR site. As I am researching my OH family tree its different but nonetheless nice to keep in touch. Unfortunately my OH and family are into the whole family tree so that is sad.

Breakfast time here then washing (again) and time for work ! So have a great day all and for those heading to bed I am so jealous....:)))) Sleep well!

Diane, I worked in Local Government for over 40 years in both the UK and West Oz.

All except my first year when I was a junior committee clerk at Manchester has been in Environmental Health (known as Public Health before that: I missed out being known as a Sanitary Inspector, fortunately!!)

Sue, sorry I went away, it took me ages to book some train tickets on line. I could have walked down to the station faster
You are indeed a third cousin of your kind contact.
I remember playing tea parties when mine were little as well. My daughter went through a phase of wanting to do my hair, she used to put lots of ribbons and slides in it. I was once very embarrassed by having to answer the door to a delivery man while "all dolled up" That was a long time ago now

My 3 yo grandson is insistent on having his finger and toe nails painted. He looks so funny in his very boyish clothes and pink nail polish. My daughter's very unpleasant ex FIL told her that it was wrong to allow him to wear nail polish - not sure what he was getting at but I can guess:-))

Good Afternoon Perse,
Montgomery sends his best wishes, and hopes you are well.
What is a Lammington please?

Diane, I'm not doing anything special for my birthday - my daughter may visit - that will be special enough for me - and I'm just happy to be still here. Has anyone ever lived this long? though I'm sure I'm only 45 really.

Lamingtons are a sponge cake (or, more traditionally, butter cake) in the shape of a cuboid, coated in a layer of traditionally chocolate icing then desiccated coconut. They are sometimes served as two halves with a layer of cream and/or strawberry jam between, and are commonly found in Australasian outlets such as cafes, lunch bars, bakeries, and supermarkets. The strawberry variety is more common in New Zealand, while a lemon variety has been encountered in Australia.

I found that on wikepedia Tec, they had some pictures as well

Tec - there is a tour in OZ and they boil the billy and you have vegemite sandwiches and Lamingtons. They are blocks of sponge cake shaped like a cuboid rolled in a chocolate icing/sauce and covered in coconut - I don't particularly like them but my eldest is a fan but then she is different from the rest of us - loves a curry and we don't bother with it much.

Have I got that description right Sue? They do them here and they do raspberry ones as well.

Oh there you go Tec - here was me trying to work it out instead of googling.

Thanks Linda - I should've looked there first.

Tec, just to add to Linda's post, lammingtons are also used as fundraisers for Schools etc. They are usually sold (for fundraising purposes) in packs of twelve and the children, or whoever is raising the money, get a pledge from rellies and workmates to purchase so many boxes and then the Lammingtons are baked to order

Sue,
I've never heard such nonsense, how can it be wrong for a little boy to play having his nails painted, or play with dolls, if that's what they want to do.
Children are children, and don't have the hang ups some small minded adults do - grrrrrrr

Shock horror, there are even men and boys wearing earings and necklaces these days.

I have a great picture of my son in one of his sisters dresses pushing her toy pram. He thought it was hilarious at the time. He wasn't all that keen on me showing it to his girlfriend though.i can't think why lol.

Bed time now I think,so have a good day down under in your lovely weather. Sleep well Tec and Diane (sorry i didn't wait for you to come back Diane)

Persephone Report 19 Jan 2010 23:20

Sorry must go can't sit around and chat about lamingtons when I have just been invited out for a coffee. So am off to get changed.
Not sure if I will be here tomorrow - we are going to spend our Christmas Vouchers at Freedom (this is a store that does couches, cushions, sheets, curtains, dishes and other things in that line).
Friday - I will be working.

Cheers Persephone

edit: I will come back on here later today Diane.
