Carole I have Hallelujah on my iPod. Have you heard Leonard Cohen's version? Not as good as Jeff Buckley's although he wrote it.

Our youngest who is 28 is still at home. He loves a lot of we love and we enjoy listening to a lot of his stuff too. The beauty of having young ones at home.

Carole - you already seem to do things together. We really enjoy our family. Our son came out with us to see Ross Wilson last night and doesn't feel silly going out with his parents. Our kids went away on holidays with us until they started work. Although our eldest son has been in the army since he was 18 we have remained close and we talk to him regularly. When he came back from East Timor we all went down and spent some time with him. We had a wonderful time together especially the children as they don't often see their cousin. Would you believe our three still squabbled like children but they're very close and it was lovely listening to them talk about things they loved doing as kids.

Allan.

Have to agree with you about the fireworks display, and also think the money wasted could be given to some in need charity.

Australia day to me, even though i was born here, and my father before me, and the many generations in my tree further back that came to these shores as pioneers, are the people i admire on Australia day. They were the true Australian's, and most were born in the U.K
Before 1788 mostly if not all white Australian's.... were Brits....:>))
I have 130 years of Aussie blood in me, but.... 500 years of English, Irish, Scot and a smidgin of Welsh....so that makes me more Brit than Aussie....lol
Eventually....all Aussie eyes ( before 1788 ) turn towards the U.K

A Poem i wrote a few years ago.
Hope it puts a smile on ya dial...:>))

Were your family from the U.K, did they sail across the sea.Perhaps your mother came from Ireland, in a town they called Tralee. Or maybe they were Scott's, and you had roots in Inverness,or your dad was born a Welshman in the big town of Cardiff.

Did your granny come from Yorkshire and walk the Yorkshire moors. Was your pop a numerator that knocked upon the doors.Did they marry up in Edinburgh or was it Aberdeen, cant find it on the registers their no where to be seen.

Perhaps they both were publicans in Ireland's County Down,But your father he remembers growing up, in Glasgow town. And your mothers, fathers, cousin, says so, when he comes a round, that they all were Cornish miners, and they worked the underground.

Was great grandad born in Gloucetershire in Bourton-on-the-Hill.It says so on the records that the family owned a Mill. But the census numerator says from Ireland he did roam, and born and bred in County Cork and kissed the Blarney stone.

And great grandma birth certificate says she was born in Kent.Along the cliff's of Dover was where her childhood spent. But her sister Kate was baptised in a church in Worstershire, with her brother born in Birmingham, during a census year.

And your two by great grand-mother was from the Isle of Mull. She married two by great grandad in Yorkshire, (Town of Hull). They moved across to Lancashire an opened up an Inn, had 14 kids in Liverpool,.... Liver-pud-li-ans.

So were your family from the U.K, did they sail upon a Brig
Was ya granny born in Essex,or did she do the Irish Jig.
Perhaps they were from Scotland, and used a Farkle stick.? I bet they all were Londoners,....its London to a brick.

Or are you just an Aussie kid like me who feels he's lost the plot. From Cornwall up to Caithness, they moved around a lot. From Norfolk to old Pembrokeshire,or perhaps an Irish plot.!!!!!
I'm a multicultured Aussie,English,Welshman,Irish,Scot....(wink)

Tony * The multicultured Poet *........:>)))

Tony - that's wonderful. May I copy it? My children are only 1st generation Aussies. I was a toddler when my parents and I came over here. I call myself an Aussie and I'm proud of that. When we go to England I love "walking in my ancestors' footsteps" so my heritage is also important to me. This is a wonderful country - don't think I'd like to live anywhere else as much as I love England.

lol.

Hiya SueMaid.
No probs mate. If you enjoyed it, then feel free to copy it....:>))

!st generation Aussie, or 10th generation Aussie ( makes no difference) ....if you live here, immigrated here, or were born here, then your here for a reason....then you are Australian....BUT.....even born and bred Australian's are searching for their U.K roots....lol

I also have been to the U.K twice now ( on Olidays ) and enjoyed every moment of it.
Dont wanna start a civil war between county's....but i did love Gloucestershire and Yorkshire from what i have seen so far.

Arl be buck.....if i can rake up a few $$$$$.....;>))

Sue.. I'm amazed at how now that my three are growing a little in maturity, they are starting to really get on with each other instead of bickering over silly little things all the time:-)
My daughter is the feisty one, she keeps the boys in line.

Tony... That poem is brilliant, I can relate to it:-)) Yep - smiles on dial:-))))

I hope you all enjoy Australia Day however you choose to spend it, so "Happy Australia Day" to all Aussies.

Tony - I loved your poem, so well done, and covered every region of the UK I think - it must be very interesting when researching your earliest ancestors to discover which part of the UK they came from. How, why, and when they arrived, and how they earned a living.

Janet - It seems so much more expensive for parents with children at school now. My grand daughter's school uniform is only availabe at one outlet, and every item is ridiculously priced. Skirts, shirts, blazers etc priced at at least double than they would be in the most expensive shop on the High St. Last year there were several field trips to various parts of the UK, and a trip to Russia, another to Rome. Then all the equipment needed for sports, and extra curriculum activities.
They have yet to finance her through University.

Carole - I was very impressed with your birthday greeting to me in Welsh - I'm sure you're Welsh, but haven't let on - Diolch yn fawr iawn - Da iawn.

Diane - Glad you've got the evidence you need at last. Let's hope something good comes of it - everyone is entitled to live in peace in their own home. I hope the situation is resolved soon.

Happy Australia day from me as well.

Hi Tec!
Is St David's day a bank hoilday? I think 23rd April should be a bank holiday!

Tecwyn Report 25 Jan 2010 20:27

Good Evening Pat,

No, St. David's Day isn't a Bank Holiday - there was some talk of it becoming so a few years ago, but nothing came of it.

Wouldn't do to give the peasants too many holidays, they might get used to it.

I'm not sure if St. Patrick's Day is a holiday for the Irish?

Good morning/evening friends. Hope you are all well.

A quiet Australia Day for us - we may go into town and have a look around the food stalls, craft stalls and buskers in the big park down by the beach. It's a good day but very crowded and nearly impossible to find a park. Unfortunately it looks like it's going to rain and that's the forecast.

Carole - to carry on the conversation about our young ones. My 3 still bicker at times on the rare occasion they are all together but it's good natured and despite our eldest son living so far away they are all very close and supportive. When my father passed away I couldn't have got through it without my kids - they were so supportive and loving. Our eldest son lived closer then and he was with us for over a week. Having the 3 of them together made that awful time a little easier to bear. We're very blessed by having a lovely family but we've worked at it as they were growing up.

Hi Tec,
I think St patrick's day is a bank hoilday in Ireland.
Sue, That's typical bank hoilday weather!

Good morning/evening everyone. Very quiet here - everyone must still be in bed! It's almost 8am - humid, cloudy - and a public holiday!

Tony - that poem describes my ancestry to a 'T'. I, too, would like to copy it with your permission. My children are more English than I am (even though they won't admit it!) as their father was a Pom - a Liverpudlian, at that!

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 25 Jan 2010 21:20

Hello Berona - it is quiet.

Well my on-going problem with a particulare couple has escalated because information I requested has not been provided. Out of 32 cheques written out only 12 drivers' forms have been sent to me. I have now asked for the "missing" forms to be sent to me and had to listen to excuses for why they seem to be elusive. There are now 3 of us going over the records as I now refuse to work on this alone. Everything we document we sign and as yet absolutely no accusations have been directed at them. However there will be questions raised. What a headache:-(

Good morning/evening to all

Happy Australia Day to all Aussies and wannabe Aussies

Sue no need to delete my previous post, there are thousands of grass trees (xanhorrhoea) growing in Oz.. Formerly, at least in WA these were known as Black Boys.

TonyOZ, it's good to see you on here again. Loved your poem.

Janet, the weather is weird at the moment. Although we have had a couple of showers down here, they only lasted for a few minutes and barely wet the ground. The start of today is vey overcast, but plenty of time for the sun to appear.

Diane, I'm pleased that your neighbour has been noisy again (you know what I mean). I was reading in the International Express about a woman has been placed on some sort of bond for her noisy love-making. If it (the Sound!!) occurs once more in the next twelve months, it's either a fine or jail.

Berona, take care and I hope that the cause of your cramps is found and appropriate medication given.

Tec, I'll send you my Sou'wester if I can find any more stamps.

Hello Pat, why would St George's Day be a Bank Holiday? He didn't do a very good job os slaying the Dragon.....I'm still married to her :0))
