Sue, you posted while I was drafting my rambling thread.

There is no need to regard your problem as a headache, as you are doing absolutely the right thing, particularly with having others help you.

If there is a perfectly innocent explanation fine, even if it's just "Sorry I forgot to do them"

But always remember that if you hadn't done an Audit and there was something amiss, all fingers would be pointing at you.

As I said in a previous post, not a pleasant time but a very necessary one, even if it only leads to a change in proceedures to ensure something similar does not happen in the future.

Stay strong.

Hi, Allan - you will be in so much trouble if your OH reads what you've just written:-)) Yes the grass trees were called Black Boys here too but it's apparently not PC anymore.

Good Morning Berona,

How are you today? no more cramps I hope.

Good Morning Sue,

I don't envy you your problem - that kind of thing is always a headache.
With the local charity that I ran, it was a requirement of the Charity Commissioners that the accounts be independently audited annually.
We were fortunate that we could get this carried out free by a qualified Chartered Accountant who was the father of one of the children.
The Charity Commissioners could ask to see the audited accounts at any time, so the treasurer had to have receipts and invoices for every penny.
You could always announce that your accounts were being submitted for audit - therefore essential to have all documentation handed in pronto

Hello everyone
I will ~~~~ to Janet as she is bound to be gone by now.

Pat - I am beginning to think you quite like the odd day off work.
St Patrick's day here is a very busy day for our Irish pubs - it is amazing how mang NZders become Irish on that day.

Black Boys = Sue it is quite alright for Allan to mention them they are a variety of peach.

Lamb chops on the barbie - here's me thinking you'd all be boiling billies today and getting out the savs and vegemite sandwiches and dare I mention it lamingtons. I hope you Aussies got up this morning and sang Advance Australia Fair..... which I definitely think should be replaced by Tony's poem which I loved - and will definitely copy that - thankyou Tony... now can you get it set to music and Sue can arrange for one of her favourite bands to sing it.

My children did not bicker much at all - maybe it is because of the age gap of just over 5 years. But when I went out with them my youngest would (then around 11) say - oh mummm you are not going to wear that are you? And the eldest would say it is up to her if she wants to look like
that.

Oooooh, Allan - you'll be in trouble if your OH sees that post!!!

Sue - I fully sympathise with your situation. This happens in voluntary organisations. People tend to do things THEIR way, and they might be good at carrying out part of the job they take on, but no good at all at another part - in your case - record keeping. They don't realise that the books still need to be audited and the executives have responsibility to see that the books are in order.
Don't get too stressed about it. Involving others to check with you is a good idea. Hope you can sort it all out amicably, and soon.

SueMaid Report 25 Jan 2010 21:48

Thank you, Allan. It's a difficult situation but I think it will just be a matter of new guidelines which I am already drafting. I don't think we can prove anything even the question of money is 'iffy' but they may think twice about the messy record keeping in future. Why would anyone risk their reputation for a few dollars and especially as questions were raised a long time before I came into the picture.

Good Morning Allan,

Has there been any riotous behaviour emanating from your premises on this Australia Day - if not - why not?

Persephone Report 25 Jan 2010 21:53

Sue - I often ask myself - why do people do this - but there are some that like to tweak at things and just see how much that they can get away with and then come all over innocent when found out.
The person I worked for took one of his partners to court - but he was ripping the company off big time albeit very subtley - took us years to realise what he was up to - I was shocked/dumbfounded as he seemed to me to such a nice chap.

Berona Report 25 Jan 2010 21:58

My children never bickered or showed signs of jealousy. My two older boys were 18mths apart and did most things together, but each had his own mates; third son was more of a loner, but also had his own set of friends, and all three were very protective of their little sister...As they all grew older, they all went places together and had the same friends.

Now, in their forties (sister will be there soon), it is SHE who chases them up when she thinks I need any help and they go to her with any problems to get her advice.

One thing I am pleased about is that their father was very strict when it came to tattoos! Although I know one of them would love to have got one at the time, they wouldn't dare!!! Now, they are so glad that they didn't!!

Allan, Yes please, I can use the sou'wester

Allan Report 25 Jan 2010 22:01

Tec, no riotous behaviour yet, mainly because it is not even 6.00am in the West.

There will be a Community Breakfast on the foreshore starting at 7.00am with the usual load of garbage spoken by our local community leaders. That is being a tad unfair to them but they are like local councillors everywhere. Why use one word when with a dictionary of synonyms you can use two hundred, and still not say a thing.

Berona, Sue

I didn't really mean that about OH, particularly as she is behind me with a blunt pair of scissors in her hand :0)) LOL

To use an expression of Sigmund Freud's ysterday I had words with her about the garden, and she had paragraphs with me!!

Good evening Tec. So glad you are accepting the use of the sou'wester - that will protect your nightcap and keep you warm.

I have my radio on 2CH and they say they will be playing Australian songs all day to-day. I've already heard my favourite - I Still Call Australia Home.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 25 Jan 2010 22:11

In general I would agree with you, Berona but this person has been a book-keeper in her professional life and when she was treasurer her books were exemplary. They say you always get caught when you leave the position or go on holiday.

Berona

Berona Report 25 Jan 2010 22:23

Oh dear, Sue - that makes it a bit different! She should know better!

Reminded me of when we started the local soccer club. One of our founders (John) was an accountant and took the role of treasurer for the first three years. In later years, after two more people had been in the position, it was heard that one of our senior players would stand for the position. John said he didn't like the idea. When reminded that the player was an accountant, John said "That's what worries me. I don't trust him!". ?????
(He did get elected - and did a good job, by the way).

Berona

Berona Report 25 Jan 2010 22:31

There seems to be a lot of talk about riotous behaviour expected here. The police are ready to pounce if alcohol takes over. I must have missed something somewhere - but it is Tuesday - a public holiday - with most people going to work as usual tomorrow. There are Australia Day celebrations organised for those who want to attend - but I can't see that this will cause any more bad behaviour than happens at any organised event. Why do the police expect so much to come from what is only a 'one day off' from work - mid-week? Why so much emphasis placed on Australia Day celebrations causing problems?

Persephone

Persephone Report 25 Jan 2010 22:31

I can probably understand John's reaction to a certain extent Berona. I have worked with a financial controller that I didnot trust. There is many an accountant that has been had up for fraud so one is very wary of one's fellowman so to speak.
Just because the majority stick to the rules and ethics etc there is always the odd one that pops out and is a bit bent.

How's the Navy Lark - Tec - I well remember them Jon Pertwee & Leslie Phillips and even Ronnie Barker used to be in those sketches. And Round the Horn, Take it from Here etc and the other ones we used to listen to were My Word, Just a Minute, My Music etc. Then we stopped getting them here in NZ - more's the pity.

SueMaid Report 25 Jan 2010 22:31

Hi, Tec - we do have an external audit every year but the fact that she has held 2 postions makes it easy to do what I suspect she has been doing. Either way it will be sorted. I believe she'll cover her tracks everything will look above board but new guidelines that will close up the gaps will have to be followed if she wants to stay on as transport co-ordinator. It isn't an elected position so it could be sorted fairly easily.

I really should be off - even though you are all starting to coming on board.

Sorry I've just realised Persey has posted - sorry Persey hope you are well. Take care all.

Allan Report 25 Jan 2010 22:44

Berona: Australia Day behaviour!. In WA there is a very big firework display on the Swan River foreshore in Perth.

Families start turning up early in the day to stake out a viewing area, unfortunately so do the yobs of all ages who then proceed to booze all day.

Over the last few years ther have been outbreaks of violence which have left quite a few casualties.

The following day, tons of rubbish has to be removed from the foreshore.

This year the police have declared the whole area an alcohol free area and have said the even families enjoying a quiet drink and not causin any problems will also be included in their clamp down: this was followed by our Premier saying on the news last night that families would not be targeted...followed by the Police Commisioner sayin that as far as he was concerned there would be no exemptions.

Talk about mixed messages!

That's why we stay at home! We can see the Aerial fireworks form our bedroom!
