Thanks for the good wishes Perse. Bad luck about the days falling on a Saturday. When that happens here, we still get the holiday - ie, Anzac Day and Australia Day are celetrated on 25th April and 26th January, no matter when they fall, but if they do fall on a Saturday or Sunday, we get Monday off as the public holiday - just like Christmas and Boxing Days - again, we get the extra days. I think ours might be the only country in the world with so many public holidays!

Another good reason for everyone to move to Australia - Berona.

We want you enjoying all the days - not just the public holidays - so that you are moving around a lot better - I am waiting for your results.

Hi Diane
Saw the first lamb of the year today while out with the dog, so Spring must be on the way - poor thing must only have been a few hours old, don't know how they survive out there in these temps.

Hope you are well, I expect you appreciate your son's company again, now that he is back.............

Hello friends - hope you are all well.

Australia Day was hot and sticky - very uncomfortable. This weather makes me very lethargic. January and February are the worse months for high humidity and heat and it's no different at the moment. Thank goodness for air conditioning.

Hello, Tec - you posted while I did. At least here spring is warm. Last spring there was a foal with it's mum in the field behind us. What a lovely sight.

Good evening/morning everyone. Hope all is well with all of you?

Another humid day coming up with thunderstorms forecast for to-day and the next two days. Plenty of cloud, but no sign of rain as yet.

Good Morning Sue,
Good Morning Berona,

We also have foals with their mothers near us - they do look beautiful - all legs, like Bambi

I look like that when walking on the icy pavements LOL

Humid weather is horrible isn't it - I can't bear that - not that there's much chance at the moment - snow forecast for the weekend - great!

Good morning Berona and Sue

Good evening Tec

Weather was much kinder here yesterday. Overcast and hit a high of about 30c in the late afternoon.

A most exciting day!!

We bought five small goldfish to restock the pond and in the evening I became so engrossed in a programme on ABC TV about the fall of Ancient Egypt, that started at 8.30pm. the same time as the start of the fireworks, that I misse seeing them.

No great loss, to my mind a total waste of money!

Good Morning Allan,

30c soundsawfully high to me - just been in the garden with the dog and everything is covered in frost already.

I saw the fireworks in Melbourne............

BBC were covering the tennis tournament there, and showed the fireworks too.

Hope your new goldfish do well - a heron has stolen all my neighbours fish

Good morning Allan. You have goldfish in a pond - and three cats? My little hunter would be in her element!

Allan

Allan Report 26 Jan 2010 21:23

Tec, believe me after temps of 38-40 at around 10.00am 30 in the late afternoon is cool!

It was nice just to get out without looking for the nearest shade!

Hello Berona, you posted while I was composing....which I suppose is better than you posting while I was decomposing :0))

Funnily enough the cats have never bothered with the fish over the many years that we have had both cats and fish.

Birds, mice and small lizards are a different matter!

I've come to the conclusion that I wouldn't survive very long in Australia now - extremes of temps affect me badly, heat worse than cold.

Berona, Can I borrow your little hunter - we have a rat in the garden, attracted by the seed that drops off the bird feeders. It fought off a squirrel the other day.

Tec

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 26 Jan 2010 21:38

Can't bear rats. We have a little creek just down from us and every now and then we'll get one.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Jan 2010 21:40

I reluctantly bought a rat trap - it's against my nature to kill anything, but I draw the line at rats - afraid they might get into the house.

Allan Report 26 Jan 2010 21:50

Tec I don't enjoy the heat, and could put my fist through the telly when the wweather person says that "It' going to be a lovely warm 38c tomorrow"

In previous years the majority of people that I have spoken with all say they enjoy the hot weather.

This year, those same people are now complaining about the heat.

I virtually turn into a recluse during periods of hot weather. Into the house as soon as the outside temp starts to feel uncomfortable and stay there until the following morning.

I quite like rats but they must not be overcooked, otherwise they become stringy!

Allan please don't lower the tone of the thread talking about cooking rats.
Not sure whether I want to come to your BBQ now.
