Persephone Report 4 Feb 2010 09:33

Carole - It was the funniest thing I have read on here in a long while... good thing my friend is over in Western Australia at the moment otherwise I would have had her spluttering in her coffee.

Allan - We used to have to pay a death duty tax here in NZ - I remember it being there when my granfather died back in the sixties.

Berona - you gone to sleep?

Allan

Allan Report 4 Feb 2010 09:43

Understanding Engineers - Take One

Two engineering students were walking across a university campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"

The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want."

The second engineer nodded approvingly and said, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fitted you anyway."

I had no idea that news of my twee little illuminated dongle would be the cause of so much hilarity.

I don't know what Mother would say!

Here I go again!!

Morning all - just popped in to say I won't be here - hairdressers today and pay my terminal tax (eeerkkkk).

Will look in later to see if all have been behaving Berona.

~~~~~~~~~~~~ Janet - where are you - don't tell me you are flat out studying already?
Hi to Alison and thanks Barbara and Tec.
Good Morning Perse,
What on earth is Terminal Tax when it's out?
The engineers joke was good - made me laugh,
Have fun with the hairdresser!
Allan Report 4 Feb 2010 21:30
Good morning/evening all
Tec, the Terminal tax sounds like the tax to end all taxes: if it's not paid, they send in the Terminator!
The next thing will be a breath tax
Good morning/evening everyone!
I popped in and found nobody here last night - but it seems that as soon as I posted and left - a conversation started up. Sorry I missed it. I'll stay around a bit longer next time.
The pavers are 'damp'. Must have had some kind of shower during the night, but if I didn't hear it, it must have been very light and short-lived. Still waiting for the thunderstorms the Bureau keeps promising. Muggy again to-day.
Everyone OK?
Allan
Allan Report 4 Feb 2010 21:45
Good morning, Berona.
I trust that you are well.
Good Morning Allan,
Terminal Tax sounds so final - Inheritance Tax is a tax on the dead really.
Value Added Tax (VAT) is the biggest rip off, replaced Purchase Tax, we everything we buy 17.5% is tax to the government. This was of course imposed by our masters in Brussels.
A Breath Tax will in all probability come later - along with a tax on the loo, we'll be taxed on every flush.
We pay a toll (tax) to go on certain motorways, and bridges, and Congestion Tax to enter London and other cities.
We are in effect slaves to the Establishment who claim there is no money for anything.........except MPs expenses
Rant over.
I am, thank you Allan. Hope you and your OH are both well also.
I'm actually going to get back to taking my car out to-day. I don't need to go anywhere, so I will do a nice drive for about an hour. I have been getting taxied around to doctor, pathologist, and even hairdresser, but nothing like the nice drive I like to take weekly for the benefit of both me and my car!
Good Morning Berona,
Fed the cat yet?
Hope you are bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning.
This is such a civilised thread - there were two very unpleasant threads on Chat this evening. Very nasty, bitter, and personal. The worst I've ever seen.Both whooshed now, but it does make you appreciate this place, and it's posters.
Good on you Berona. Keep both yourself and your car in good mechanical order,
Tec, we pay GST over here (Goods and Service Tax) at 10%. it was supposed to replace all other taxes and charges, but guess what!
State Governments (at least WA) still charge Stamp Duty. Petrol and alcohol are subject to both GST and Excise Tax and the whole system is bl**dy complicated
There was also talk in WA (which soon became very muted) of imposing a tax on poeple whose property was worth more than $750,000 which would have capture about 60% of Perth people, including pensioners wh had no cash as such and whose only asset was their house.
Leeches!!!
Good evening Tec. Hope you and your OH are well?
Fed the cat? Of course. She gets fed at 6pm and always comes in to talk to me at 5:59. I think she must have swallowed someone's watch. She has a little trouble adjusting to Daylight Savings, but a couple of days is all she needs. Dry food is left in her dish all day for 'nibbles', but she is NEVER late for the main meal. I suppose when you sleep for 23 hours a day, meal time becomes the big event of the day!
Good Morning Berona,
I hope you enjoy your drive - it's so nice to get out of the house on your own for a while.
The open road - the wind in your hair - Queen of the highway.
Go for it.
Allan - I watched "Gnow or Never" on the ABC. It was interesting to see the size of the nest built by the malleefowl, but also, I was interested to see how flat the ground was - as far as could be seen.
Berona Report 4 Feb 2010 22:15
You betcha, Tec! Once I get out on that highway, I just might forget to come home!
