Beg you do Gill

You don't know me, so don't say my reply isn't genuine.

But i see you didn't answer the question though

In keeping with the previous poster, I've looked at My Threads!

To be honest I hadn't even noticed the Tool section to my left ever before! I am so observant - not!

My threads go back to Sept.2006 and no, I'm not doing any housekeeping (either here or at home).

If asked and I have offended someone, then I will delete - I think this has occurred once and it was indeed my error on that occasion and a private and public apology was made.

I dont actually like to see deleted postings, because it always seems to give rise to suspicion - much better to publish and be dammed, cos if you dont want anyone to see your posting, then why post?

Well, I've just had a look at "My Threads". There are 232 pages of them the earliest of which is 29 April 2004.

The next message in 2004 is the message from Genes Connected talking about the name change to Genes Reunited.

And no, I could not be bothered to sift through that lot and delete myself from all of them - yawn ...

Very rarely I delete, I will if asked specifically to do so and I think it a fair request..or once or twice when a serious thread ( eg Christmas wishes to troops ' has been hi-jacked by a WUM) . I don't "housekeep" not threads, posts, contacts or PMs. and 3 years on here it is too late to start! lol

Most any other names wouldnt be posting a thinly veiled stirring thread like this in the first place which will inevitably encourage opposing replies..

Most replies on here are genuine, apart from the one which stirs the pot further by making out the poster is being got at.

Oh BTW Gill, now you are back on GR please don't search me out & contact me via FB anymore, I wont answer you via that site especially when you pretend you'll never return to the GR boards anymore, as I do hate having my hopes raised. :o((((

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 28 Jul 2009 12:46

I deleted a thread once when someone asked me to do so. That was a few years ago now.

Having said that, GR have deleted a few of mine over the years. And it may be that one or two of those "turned" after I'd toddled off to bed (or the pub or wherever). In those cases that would be sort of out of my control.

But, I (very rarely) post anything that I consider contentious. And if I am a bit unsure of its reception then I would make sure that I would be around to mop up any fallout.

I personally find it irritating when people post a thread saying "I will delete this in a minute" and then leave it there for an hour or more while people have a good rant. Then they wonder why they're not the most popular kid on the block! Sheesh!

I'm with Budgie on this one....it shouldn't matter an iota to anyone whether I delete threads/posts or not.

Enough people on here know me well enough to know I very rarely delete unless I am mardy which, of course, isn't very often lol. On the occasions I have deleted I have always posted the reason.

Saying that I think I'll go and have a clean up ....most probably be gone for a while because I've got 6 years to go through :)

You'll have a good day:)

I don't post enough threads to delete and i can't be bothered anyway - I've no reason to delete .........

However some get the choice taken away from them through excessive and indiscriminate use of the RR button !!!

Oh the irony.!!!!!!!!!

3 deleted posts on this thread and now all we can see is the replies to them.............

**either it's the posters deleting (doubtful cos I remember one of the posters and she never deletes) OR GR are about.

Wondered what that clanking noise was I could hear.........

Some people delete some of their threads late at night before they go to bed to prevent the thread subject dissolving into chaos, & them not being
in control of removing it if it does turn

However it shouldn't be confused with some people who remove their threads soon after posting them at all times of the day, when they only have a very few replies

This is because -

Their thread is a direct message to an individual or group of people, and when they have lit that flame they delete then plead innocence.

They delete when they realise people in the main dissagree with them or share a differing opinion.

But what irritates me is when carefully worded "innocent" threads go up which are really designed to convey a dig or two & stir the pot, then after lighting the flame & watching it inevitably burn, the poster goes off to make tea, or walk the dog & one can almost see the smirk on their faces as they vacate the thread.

The inevitable outcome from that one is that peoples retaliation is reported, which shows the the thread poster for the snidey toad that they are

Berona

Berona Report 28 Jul 2009 09:45

"To delete or not to delete?" That is the question.
My answer is that I am neither of the examples. I rarely start a thread and mostly only do one post with my opinion/story on it. If, at a later date, I feel that my post was irrelevant, I will delete it. If I put up a thead and it only attracts one or two answers which are nondescript - I delete it at a later date.

I don't delete anything under a month after posting it and the reason is to keep the size of "My Threads" down. No other reason.

If I feel my posts are relevant or will affect the thread, I don't touch them.
