I wish to renew auto subscription but with a different card. How do I change this?

Michael

Michael Report 18 Feb 2014 12:51

This does not give me an answer. It just repeats what I asked

As Michael has only posted on this thread and seems a little 'lost', PM sent with a C&P from the link OFiTG gave.

Does GR have a phone number that I can actually speak to a person?

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 16 Feb 2016 18:54

Support is a very small team and they don't exactly encourage phone calls. They field queries from Findmypast as well as GR. You'd be better off emailing them via
[email protected]
They aim to reply within 3 working days, 9 to 5.

If you have a facebook account, try posting on their page - they annoyingly tend to look out for emails from you after you've done that.

i actually got a reply from Genes today to an email about my threads and messages not working - they are looking into it although they are still not working. However - and this surprised me - the last sentence of the email was as follows:-

If you would prefer to speak with our Customer Support team, please call us on +44 (0) 20 3326 6300 between 9am and 5.30pm (GMT) Monday to Friday.

That's the first time I have seen a phone number for them. Wonder how long it takes them to answer the phone!!

Kath ............

someone else, can't remember who now, reported being given a phone number on an email to them, that was within the last 2 weeks.

Someone else spotted that Karen who signed the emails that I and this other person had been receiving was on the FMP FB page as customer support .... that was also within the 1st couple of weeks

Thanks Sylvia - yes, I remember someone else mentioning they had been given a phone number but I don't think they gave the number on the thread.

I don't use Facebook at all - and don't intend to - so I didn't know Karen was on there.

I just wish they would sort this site out. I have been able to access my messages this morning but "my threads" is still not working. It makes it so much harder to find threads I've added to - especially as my memory isn't what it was, lol.

Kathleen - try adding them to Watched Threads. As long as you don't have loads, that might work for you. If you don't want notifying emails when another post is added, untick the first column and save. As long as you don't tick the Delete box you should be able to find it relatively easily.

Thanks DetEcTive. Why didn't I think of that? !!

At least my watched threads seems to work.

I wonder why Genes seem to be the only chat forum that charges for chatting. I can fully understand paying for info and anything connected with enhancing a family tree, but paying for chatting?!! :-( WW2 chat, gransnet, mumsnet and medical sites, cocker spaniel forum, and many more are all free. Genes however charge £18 (after 10% discount) a year for exactly the same facility!!

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 18 Feb 2016 13:39

I think it is because they were one of the early websites and always did charge, and it was not so much in the beginning so they have just kept on charging.

I really do think they should combine this site with Findmypast, add a forum on there and let people use the forum for free or pay to see the records (which I already do).

Oh I see! Sort of!! I wonder how many people have left the site because of this? As you say it's got more and more expensive which I'm beginning to balk at! Combining the two sites would be a good and cheaper idea, and probably encourage people to spend more on their research in the long run. Nothing like a freebie to encourage folk to spend in other ways!!! Perhaps if people leave it might come to Genes notice and action might be taken to come into line with other chat sites! I know, pigs might fly!!!
