Emma
No he wasnt told to contact his surgery. He was told he would be referred to East Grinstead for any follow up.
When he phoned me i said get in touch withn your doctor. Doesnt help they only moved 4 weeks ago and all all the records are in limbo whilst the transfer and re registering is going on

Shirley wonderful to hear good news re Jamie. There is more
red tape in this country than caring, saying that I would have thought
he would have been told by hospital to attend his GP's surgery so
nurses could see to him. As you say communications break down.
My best regards to you all. Take care.

Mmm I think I have a bit of a problem feeling sorry for leeches. The condemned eating a hearty meal!!!

Glad he is settled at home but why can't these places communicate and why nit pick when they know he is going to be 'their' patient? Hope it all gets sorted soon anyway. Maybe his doctor can have a word.

Jamie and Angie popped in to see us yesterday afternoon. he showed me his hand taken on his mobile after the accident, Gruesome!! he is a lucky lad though as he could have lost his whole hand, He said he has to keep reminding himself of that when he gets down about the finger loss.
Hasn't had his follow up appointment from East Grinstead so he phoned them as he was worried about the dressing maybe needing changed. He was passed around from pillar to post till he found someone who could tell him they have his referral but its going through the system!! he asked what do i do then re the dressing and was told you need to get it done at the hospital where you were treated .He said BUT thats in Sheffield & I am now at home in Kent!! they said you ain't our patient till we have seen you.
Fortunately his wife is a veterinary practice manager so she was able to to renew his dry dressing and he has now contacted his doctor for the nurse to look at it and redress, Definitely though a communications break down.

He showed me the leeches that were put on the thumb. one every two hours. They started off very small but after gorging for two hours they were HUGE. Poor things though after having a good feed and then being taken off they were then disposed of. Yes they couldn't be used again because of cross contamination but you cant help being sorry for em!!

Oh Shirley what a dreadful thing to happen.
You must all be in a state over it, and him being so far away from home too.
It goes without saying really, but must say it anyway..... We wish him all the best, and keep us informed.
God bless him,
Deanna & Allan X

That's great Shirley.
A long and tiring day, but I'm sure he's pleased to be back home.

I wonder why the leeches cost so much..... There's loads out on nearby Romney Marsh, but the hospital would only use clean, specially bred ones, I guess.
I hope they have worked their magic healing for Jamie.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Jamie is now back home . arrived back at 7.45pm. A long day for him as the driver arrived at the Northern General Hospital at 12.30pm .

He was telling me this morning that each round of leeches cost £800!!!

Just read this thread, and hope Jamie is safely home.
I know someone who had leeches put on his foot, after he had toes removed to probs with diabetes, and they worked.
Isn't it marvellous what normally horrid little creatures can do to help lol

Positive thoughts to him and his family

I've seen the wonderful results that can be achieved at East Grinstead, so it's good to know that Jamie will soon be home and able to continue his treatment there.
I'm sure he will feel more at ease when he's home with his family.
