sex and nudity do not offend me, but a sex act between consenting adults is private - not meant for public viewing

I don't like it on wildlife programmes when they move the camera on to animals engaged in the sex act - it's private even for them

OH once had to explain to a young soldier (under 21) from the nearby army camp what he should be doing.

He and his bride had been married for about 6 months, and no sign of a child, so the RC chaplain sent him down to the chemist's shop to ask the pharmacist to tell him what to do.

Unfortunately (??), the pharmacist was away and OH, age 19, was looking after the shop, and got landed with the job

and, NO, they were not doing it right!!

I'm still (50+ years later) trying to work out what they were doing ......... it certainly wasn't what you would expect (need a blushing emoticon here!) :-D

Dam I missed that was watching The Sherriffs. Reminds me of the leaflets they gave me when I had my hip joint replaced. Don't ask.

Not necessarily a prude, but you did the right thing by making the decision not to watch it and then switching channels.

Who are any of us to say what should and should not be shown on television when we can exercise the choice not to watch it?

Personally, I have never understood why anyone could be offended by nudity or sex - its something we all have in common but the majority of people are so shy when it comes to talking about or seeing it!

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 21 Mar 2012 13:22

maybe but then some people are "shy" and wouldnt think to be adventurious lol,and try thing,s unles they seen it on Tv,

i think if it was half term id have been furious, if lttleman was about,

but i think no harm done turn over if ya didnt like it, if it helped 1 person it was worth it :-D

I didn't see it so it is difficult to judge but it does sound a bit 'unusual' for daytime viewing. However, as already said, and you yourself used it, there is always the off button. I can imagine it would be awkward to explain if watching TV with a toddler with you. I wonder if there was a warning given at the start of the programme.

Rambling Report 21 Mar 2012 13:07

lol Chris, do you think that's why there is a trend in homestyling mag's and programmes these days to cover beds with dozens of cushions of all shapes and sizes? I've often wondered what people did with them when they wanted to get into bed...now I know ;-)

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 21 Mar 2012 13:01

RR - as I switched on they were adviising the oldies where to place the cushions ;-) ;-) ;-)

Rambling

Rambling Report 21 Mar 2012 12:59

But Stray those are 'problems' that adults really should have the nous to 'solve' themselves, it's not rocket science to grab a cushion etc... next they'll be showing 'how to change a light bulb' ;-)

AnnCardiff Report 21 Mar 2012 12:58

I have this image of some arthritic ageing couples recording this and then trying to copy it!!!

as has been said, if you can't work it out for yourselves, take up stamp collecting or bird watching

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 21 Mar 2012 12:53

i can understand why you would see it as not for daytime tv, i do agree but however, there solving real life problems, people do have so in a way, its helping others,

and we always have the choice of turning the channel :-)

Rambling

Rambling Report 21 Mar 2012 12:52

I turned it off, lol not because I am a prude, it's just too early in the day to hear people jabbering on about the missionary position when you're on your aching knees trying to get bits of rubbish that have disappeared under the settee, and to be honest if you haven't worked out how to do it comfortably together in the privacy of your own room.... well ! :-D

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 21 Mar 2012 12:51

Ahemmmmmmmmmmm - good try but think if you tried those positions in a bed store, security/police would suddenly appear!

Wasn't so much offended - thought it inappropriate timing - if required. Was easy - I switched over/off.

GRMarilyn

GRMarilyn Report 21 Mar 2012 12:49

Chris,

Maybe they were trying out the beds !! ;-)

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 21 Mar 2012 12:49

Actually, no. I don't think you're being prudish at all...it's not what you expect from day time TV at all...

I probably would've laughed...but I can wholly understand someone being offended by it x

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 21 Mar 2012 12:43

not daytime viewing in my opinion - save it for the porn channels
