*tuts* has nobody found the missing OP yet?

had a good giggle this morning when watching the news there was an item about a Catholic priest who was giving a talk to parents on a child's first communion. He had a screen up and put his memory stick in and up came pornographic pictures of men!!! Nothing to do with him apparently

very interested to kinow how he can talk himself out of that!!!!

I should have said I speak as a Christian, got confirmed a few years back, but that does not mean I don't have a sense of humour

This is my take on faith and love :-)

The default position of every human being, at birth, is atheism. No one is born a christian, hindu, jew, muslim or anything else. They are taught to be that.

However, every human is born with the ability to love all other people. Religion makes a damned good job of getting rid of that.

Agree Rose but strangely I have often been in the situation where you have articulated what I wanted to say so much better than I could. And I have long learned not to get into debate with Eldrick, he is much more coherent than I will ever be.

Debating religion is a fruitless exercise, to be honest. There is no counter argument that can be used in debate, as faith is a very personal thing and so it should be. I would never criticise any individuals, but the freedom to criticise, lampoon and otherwise challenge the principle of organised religion is a basic tenet of free speech. So what if someone is offended by me doing that? It's not life threatening, no one will become ill or injured. Live with it, move on and enjoy your faith, secure in the knowledge that godless people like me will go to hell forever and ever and ever and that you have the moral high ground.

Personally speaking, not that I believe in it of course - but I would rather spend eternity in hell than endorse and live forever in a celestial North Korea ruled over by a jealous capricious president that preaches total obedience, misogyny, genocide, child sacrifice, genital mutilation of children, homophobia, stoning to death of people for minor infringements of his code of ethics (!), world domination, death for apostasy and eternal damnation for people like me but not for paedophile priests who recant and seek forgiveness. And anyone that disagrees with this hasn't read their bible, koran or tanakh recently - or has chosen to ignore those bits. After all, its all the same god, what's a prophet between friends :-D

Anyway, in for a penny, etc. If its acceptable for people to post things about religion, then its acceptable for me to post things about atheism. Or else this becomes a fundamentalist religious site which will make it great fun :-)

I saw the post and I can't see anything that was objectional.in it.......as I said earlier I found it very interesting and factual.

Folk who want to celebrate Easter and have faith are doing so on separate threads unharassed and respected.

Shame the tolerance doesn't cut both ways

I can see that some people might feel unable to debate an issue they feel strongly about, with Eldrick...because he is obviously well read and coherent and reasoned in his arguments.

Not everyone has the same skill with words, also it is sometimes harder to make a 'logical' argument when you just 'know' something but have never had to articulate it ('faith' is particularly difficult because it's like explaining love (in a non chemical way lol...)

But if one doesn't feel able to put something into words there is always someone who will do it (unknowingly) 'on your behalf' on here ( some of my best thoughts have been articulated perfectly by someone else on here in the past lol).

Better to not RR and give someone else the chance to put the opposing view surely?

so people want to stifle free speech and intelligent debate. Nothing new there then. We'll soon be reduced to discussing what we had for breakfast, dinner, tea.
