Hey Eldrick.....I see you have trust in the surgeons etc......and yet you have never met them :-D :-D

That little boy in Africa will have someone praying for him........but how do you solve the problem of the corrupt officials, governments and people who are blocking aid, syphoning money and generally contributing to the massive problems faced by their people?? :-S

So many probs are caused by we humans.......but God gets the blame....

Look at that......we double posted........ :-D :-D

The main thing that strikes me about your last comment Eldrick is your use of the word 'I', sort of 'me' 'me' 'me'. Maybe it's time to look in another direction. :-D

Current Christian doctrine? There is no current Christian doctrine. It's been the same for over 2,000 years my friend. Those who live with Christ, die with Christ. Those who don't........don't. But it's not for us to judge so I couldn't possibly comment on your fate ...... I don't believe in Crystal balls you see...... ;-)

Ah, It makes sense now. I wondered how long it would take, lol.

Feel Free

and may the force be with you !!

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 3 Apr 2012 20:38

Renes

Are you seriously criticising my use of the English language? Seriously?

In a debate about religion, you are criticising the way I use language? Well, if you really want to travel that route.......

I look forward to it! :-D :-D :-D :-D

Edit: Cyn, regarding the young footballer, I had a thread up about that. My feelings about it are well known, but I am sure atheist fans would do as I did. Nothing. But place their trust in the expertise of the medical staff.

As I said then, I believe that praying is selfish and pointless, as if it is gods will, then who am I, you or anyone else to try to influence him to change his mind when some little boy in africa is dying of a curable illness but hasn't got anyone to pray for him. Not that I for one moment believe in prayers, but the principle is, for me, so wrong on so many levels.

As for books on theology......wow......there are thousands......where does one start and yes, there have always been translation difficulties. Hebrew/Greek/Aramaic/Latin/English......such a cocktail!

And as for the bible itself.......there are so many different versions available today - from those that suit scholars and theologians to those which have been published in an easier reading form. I quite like the Good News version myself but I think that maybe it's time for me to have another look round.....

Just thought of something Eldrick....

When that young footballer collapsed on the field a few weeks ago, there were loads of messages urging people to pray for him. It made me wonder how football fans who are atheists handled that request??

Eldrick Report 3 Apr 2012 20:34

Heres a one for you, then.

By any definition, I am a heretic, a blasphemer and I deny the holy spirit, in triplicate and with bells on if necessary. I am emancipated, freed of the shackles of belief. I do not believe in any god and I do not believe in jesus or mohammed other than accepting that they may have existed but are neither prophets or anything other than normal human beings.

So, what is my fate? I have not been struck by lightning, visited by a plague of frogs or bitten by a serpent. I am free to eat what I want, when I want, wear what I want, not have bits of my body cut off, don't have to pray or worship anything or anyone, can sleep with who I want and think what I want. I have no fears of retribution in either this life or whatever awaits me afterwards. I am no better and no worse than anyone else on this planet, I am kind to people and animals, I give to charity and have been responsible for a number of acts that have bettered the lives of those less fortunate than me. Mr average.

But I deny the holy spirit and the existence of god, jesus, allah and mohammed. For those reasons, there are many who would still, in this day and age, see me dead, beheaded or horribly tortured then ritually killed. OK, perhaps not in this country, but certainly in some parts of the world.

So what is my fate according to current christian doctrine? Just asking, thats all

:-D :-D

Thats like speaking in braille to me. Sorry, we are on different planes. I dont understand what you are getting at.

Oh dear. I was inviting you.

Forget it, ignore it and take into account that the written word can often be misinterpreted by the reader, which is rather the point of this whole thread. The reader of something often puts their own interpretation on it, a bit like the bible and the koran in a strange way. Quite a good example, if I say so myself!

:-D :-D

What do you get when you cross an insomniac, an agnostic and a dyslexic?

Someone who stays up all night wondering it there is a dog. :-D

Renes

Renes Report 3 Apr 2012 19:48

perhaps there is a different interpretation of the following --if there is, I am unaware of it

"Feel free to contribute - we dont bite! "

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 3 Apr 2012 19:42

Not sure I understand you. Permission for what? Sorry, must be having a senior moment.

:-)

Haven't read that particular one, RR, but I dont think that it is disputed anywhere that there are translation issues from the Hebrew into English or whatever else. The classic is the argument over the translation of the word Almah - does it mean virgin or, to use the literal translation - a young girl?
