Good morning :-)

Yesterday was known as Rogation Sunday which leads into the Rogation Days.

Rogation Days are the three days preceding Ascension Day, especially devoted to asking for God’s blessing on agriculture and industry. In some areas, Churches will often mark the Rogation days with a “Rogation procession,” where the vicar, choir and congregation process outdoors and say prayers over the fields and farms.

Father God, we give you thanks for those who work on the earth you have created; farmers and gardeners, who till the soil, plant the seed, tend the crops, and harvest so others may eat. We give you thanks for those who work long hours to fill our tables with the gifts of your hand. Remind us that every good and perfect gift comes from you and we thank you. Amen.

Good morning :-)

The Collect (special prayer) for today:

God our redeemer,
you have delivered us from the power of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:
grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life,
so by his continual presence in us he may raise us
to eternal joy;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Hello all

Yesterday's psalm took me way back to school days very many years ago.I know psalm 121 off by heart.

Psalm 23 has to be the most recognised one ever.

An interesting weeks postings. Thank you Cynthia.

Good morning :-)

I don’t think there are any prizes for guessing the most popular Psalm……now a hymn, sung at countless 'life' events, especially funerals. A hymn which has been set to several tunes.....and was the popular signature tune for The Vicar of Dibley.

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Countdown of (possibly) the most popular psalms.

Coming in at No. 2 - and this is definitely popular!

Psalm 121

Assurance of God’s Protection A Song of Ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8 The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and forevermore.

Hello all

I don't remember reading this psalm. Thank you.

I hope all is going as planned for Tabitha and her mother in law's funeral arrangements. Wondering how both job interviews went for Tabitha too.

Happy Thursday blessings for one and all today.

Countdown of (possibly) the most popular psalms.

Coming in at No. 3.

Psalm 138

Of David.
1 I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
before the “gods” I will sing your praise.
2 I will bow down toward your holy temple
and will praise your name
for your unfailing love and your faithfulness,
for you have so exalted your solemn decree
that it surpasses your fame.
3 When I called, you answered me;
you greatly emboldened me.

4 May all the kings of the earth praise you, Lord,
when they hear what you have decreed.
5 May they sing of the ways of the Lord,
for the glory of the Lord is great.

6 Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly;
though lofty, he sees them from afar.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes;
with your right hand you save me.
8 The Lord will vindicate me;
your love, Lord, endures forever—
do not abandon the works of your hands

Good morning :-)

The countdown on (possibly) the most popular psalms.....

No. 4

Psalm 62
Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
How long will you assault me?
Would all of you throw me down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
Surely they intend to topple me
from my lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honour depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
Surely the lowborn are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie.
If weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.
Do not trust in extortion
or put vain hope in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.
One thing God has spoken,
two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,
and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
and, “You reward everyone
according to what they have done.”

Good morning :-)

Looking at the 6 most popular psalms - in reverse order!

No. 5

Psalm 46 - you can see the basis for several of our much loved hymns in this psalm.

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[d] with fire.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Good morning :-)

Yesterday? What a day that was to be sure. :-D

Something church people are missing at the moment, is the fact that we are unable to sing hymns as yet. Hopefully, as restrictions lift, we will be able to join in and sing our little hearts out!

It reminds me of the Book of Psalms, which is a record of petitions, thanksgiving and praise to God by His people. Psalms have brought comfort, encouragement and blessing to God’s people throughout the ages and every human emotion is covered in these hymns. They were originally written for worship in the Jewish temples.

The 150 Psalms are a collection of the writings of several different authors. However, it is generally thought that King David of Israel was the major source and collector of these writings which are divided into five major sections.
Psalms have a beauty of their own. This week, a look at what are, apparently, the top 6 most popular psalms…in reverse order of course!

No. 6 Psalm 117 – this is the shortest psalm and the shortest chapter in the whole bible!

Praise the Lord, all nations!
Extol him, all peoples!
For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord!

Hello all

Cynthia, isn't Sunday meant to be a day of rest?

Your Scripture from John ch 15, has me singing this beautiful traditional hymn right now............

You are the vine
We are the branches
Keep us abiding in you.

Then we'll grow in your love, and
We'll go in your name
That the world will surely know
That you have power to heal and save.

You are the vine
We are the branches
Keep us abiding in you.

My church family are waiting patiently like me, to be able to take off our face masks and sing in church.

It's cold today and meant to be cold, wet and windy tomorrow. Typical Bank Holiday weather I think!

Keep warm and stay safe everyone.

Good morning :-)

Rushed today - feel like I am meeting myself coming back!

The Collect (special prayer) for today :

Almighty God,
whose Son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life:
raise us, who trust in him,
from the death of sin to the life of righteousness,
that we may seek those things which are above,
where he reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen,

John 15.1–8

‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine-grower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.’

I was sorry to read of the sad loss of your mother in law Tabitha. My condolences to you and your family. Thinking of you <3

I’ve never called them God moments but I suppose that’s what they are; those moments when you almost breathe out in relief because all seems right with your world and you feel that deep contentment and an inner peace. The feeling usually only lasts a very short while before the world intrudes again but those few moments are precious.

Good morning :-)

To end our week of God moments, a poem from a local author which fits the bill! :-D

Ten minute poem.

A ten minute poem about a word,
seldom seen and hardly heard,
So if you see this word by chance,
Get in the street to sing and dance.
Something so little can make you feel tall,
Get your back from off the wall,
You'll feel so good, you can't contain,
The pleasure that's inside your brain.
Many people have used this word,
Many more have stood and heard,
The benefits that this word brings,
And many, many other things.
Peace and love to all the world,
Joyous banners have been unfurled,
These are the things that you will see,
When you have found the word like me.
But then you ask, what is this word?
That's seldom seen and never heard,
Should I look all over the place?
Or is it staring me in my face?
My friend, I tell you this today,
The word you seek is here to stay,
In every place you've been and trod,
The word my friend is our Lord GOD
He's in your heart, he's in your soul,
He's right behind you as you grow old,
And because you've found him you will find,
That you have now got peace of mind.
So spread this word, tell everyone,
Of the wonderous things that he has done,
And they as well, like you and me,
can be a member of God's family.

God moments ..

“We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade the presence of God. The world is crowded with Him. He walks everywhere incognito.”
C.S. Lewis

“We know that God is everywhere; but certainly we feel His presence most when His works are on the grandest scale spread before us; and it is in the unclouded night-sky, where His worlds wheel their silent course, that we read clearest His infinitude, His omnipotence, His omnipresence.”

Glad the interview went well - keep us posted.

God moments

Every day has God moments –
you just have to be aware of His presence.

“We cannot attain the presence of God. We’re already totally in the presence of God. What’s missing is awareness.”
