Diane. I must admit I was expecting a lot of Welsh language support for Robyn Lewis. I haven't seen it, so am slowly coming to the opinion that the 99 against him on Genes might be more correct than the one modest genius who is for.;-) Won't concede yet as I still have really only heard what was in that Cambrian News report in the OP. But will have no problem is saying I am wrong if that is the case. And I am sure the 99 on here wil have no problem apologising to me if that article was misleading.

i think john has been a little misunderstood of late,he does not make things better for himself with his comments on some threads,but think he likes to have fun ,rubbing people up the wrong way.

Cath. Politically Robyn Lewis has been a bit of a gadfly, it seems. He was staunch Labour till age of 40, and stood as an MP. He then joined Plaid Cymru when it started to gain seats and influence back about 1970.

As you say he has resigned from Plaid. Did not know it was over an OBE for a harpist. If that was the problem, wonder why he did not resign when Dafydd Elis Thomas became Lord Elis Thomas. But now he is making overtures to local Plaid people like Elfyn Llwyd MP to re-join Plaid!!!!

Some Plaid members are Republicans. Some Welsh Labour are Republican. I have always been staunchly Royalist, but my Plaid leader (Leanne Wood) is firmly Republican.

I think in his mind, Robyn Lewis would have been pushing to be able to do everything in Welsh that day. Not getting a lot of sympathy within Welsh speaking community either, who tend to be a bit more pragmatic and less confrontational. If he felt aggrieved, there are ways to lose a battle but win the war ;-)

My late husband used to shorten everyones name, one of my girl friends is name Georgina and he called her George, she never allowed anyone to shorten her name but for some reason he got away with it.

OHs son has started to make home made wine, and I have to say the white tasted very nice. He called in on Saturday morning and said they were getting a bottle out to bring to us and one exploded and smashed the kitchen window :-D

Dr Robyn Lewis is a thoroughly obnoxious bully who should be locked up for his own safety. How he can claim to have been humiliated is beyond comprehension.
My sympathy lies with the cashier who was humiliated by this goon.

Di~~ My cousin is Dianne ,and my aunt was told 'what a name to name a little baby girl .. Die Ann', ( horrible thing to say to someone with a new baby!! it's a lovely name) but whilst some refer to her as Dianne, her immediate family call her Di, as do I and my sis.( Mum and Dad did too) We see as it as a term of endearment,and she has no prob with it,
She introduces herself as Di.
I'm used to son's friends shortening his name now,cos that's what he uses and prefers.
I call him by his full name but write to to him in the shortened version ( if that makes sense)
Dau's name is Welsh and only gets 'changed ' by my son ;-)..she doesn't mind , she too thinks of it as a term of enearment by a loved one.
Perhaps it me, but if I'm called by my full name,I feel as if I am being brought to account for something I haven't done.lol

Maggie I used to make wine, one of the better one's that I made was Elderflower wine, one bottle I left to ferment for 12mths and it blew my head off, sharted off with that warm feeling as it went down and then Bam a couple of glasses later ( not even big one's ) it hit me :-D :-D

Sandie ~~~ my son is called Ian and I thought it wouldn't be shortened, but guess what, it is to E and I hate to hear his friends calling him that :-( I don't like to hear my daughters name shortened either, mine gets shortened to Di and I used to hate it but as I got older I learnt to except people doing it, it is usually my close friends who call me Di ( that includes you ) :-) but as a child some kids used to say Die Di and that is why I hated it when I was young.

My gran used to make all sorts of wine from wild flowers, fruit & veg - gorse, nettle, elderflower, raspberry (lovely) parsnip etc. I used to be allowed a glass, even when very young, when we visited.
I put my love of 'plonk' down to my 'classy' childhood drinking habits :-D

An old lady in our village made Dandelion pop .I wasn't fermented long enough to give it any alcohol content, it was cloudy and fizzy and everyone used to buy it from her at about 12d a flagon... I think.
Hubby made Dandelion wine in the past , I used to do the picking usually ...stains your hands something awful , but I can't wear gloves for picking small plants,except nettles !
And Yes , Dandelion wine is very potent ;-) :-D

the guy I worked with was a nurse - someone in the office had been looking for him when I saw him pass the office window, I shouted out "I've just seen M..... Hunt go past the window" to which some wag replied, "Well I've heard of throwing your voice, but that's just plain ridiculous"!!!

AnnC, I also worked with a chap called Michael Hunt ,not the same one I'm sure he never worked down your way. I always called him Mike as did most.
He was a nutter and found it hysterical if anyone used his short name and surname together ;-)
Me being called Chick is long gone and I wouldn't wish to be called it by anyone ,it was only one person ...no one else ..thank you.!

Had a wonderful recipe for the best home made dandelion wine....dandelion flowers,,raisins Lemon juice water sugar.. Fermented for about 9 months must be picked on April 23rd.....don't know why it was on St George's day??.but this was always done in Wales.......this would have stopped the phantom bard in his tracks ..it was very potent....foreign at that!
Would have made him do a Morris dance!

The myth was (is?) that if you got the sap of the D/Lion on your skin, it would make you wee.

Hence the Welsh saying John pointed out - to "pee pee in your bed", and it appears the myth is the same elsewhere !

As a youngster, I used to collect nettle and dandelion leaves for my Gran - she made a wonderful summer drink with them (sadly, I don't have the recipe - but it did involve fermentation, sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice). Was always careful not to break the dandelion stems !! Lol !!
