Have to say that i've been to Wales countless times, have family there and have never had any problem with them speaking Welsh.

When you go to another country you have to accept that may be treated in a different way to the locals but if you decide to go and live there you must try and blend in and speak the language or at least try.

John are you nuts? If Wales was an independent country (away frim England) Wales would run out or money very very quickly, thus Wales would go bankrupt. Scotland have Oil that Scotland own, Wales has emmmmmmmmmmmmmmm let me think a while

Oh yes thats it........................ NOTHING apart from a rugby team.

You call yourself a "radical extremists" I recon thats nothing more than being a foolish bully that has no idea of how the modern world works, but would rather live in the year of about 1900 with the thoughts that you like to think we all think you are correct in all you say. Let me tell you John you are so, so wrong. The fact you think otherwise just tells me how foolish you are.

Well said Sue

As you say,Llandudno was humming with people,,,Rhyl is the same at the height of summer, rock shops and burger cafes the most popular places for family holidaymakers,

Llanberris Pass it glorious, and many off the beaten parts are Wales at its best, for me anyway,

I think quality of what has been written since my last post is very good. Take a bow. I do think that book "Second-Class Citizen" written by Robyn Lewis over 40 years ago formed Plaid opinion then and now. I have said that I and him are "radical extremists", MrDaff, because we agree on a lot and we seem to both be getting that label. And I will never run away from any label. We are who we are and if people want to genralise, so be it. I think I am a rational lover of Wales and everything Welsh who believes we are a nation and should stand proud as a nation in Europe. Not an annexe of England.

It would be a shame if a request to a cashier (and we are assuming he was rude and haughty to her) and one or two recent articles blighted the fact that his book was a milestone in Plaid Cymru policy and he has attained one of the highest and most prestigious positions in Wales.

I have always beeen unashamedly in favour of an independent Wales - just because I think we would do better. Had we had a legislative Government in Cardiff Bay 30+ years ago, would all the coal mines have closed? I doubt it

But at the present time, only 13% of Welsh voters agree with me - the Welsh Labour ruling party, the Welsh Conservatives and the Welsh Liberals are all unionist parties. So unlikely that the people of Wales will want more than increased legislative powers during my lifetime. We are not angry about England like Ireland have been (we will always want to be best friends with England, I feel sure). Neither do we have a very powerful leader like Alex Salmond in Scotland.

Well said Sue.

...another point - if the English are trying to colonise Wales, why are there so many Welsh people living in England?

I COULD say they're taking 'our' jobs, but realise (unlike a certain person) that Wales, whether it likes it or not, is part of Britain!!
Therefore if someone from Wales wants to live & work in England or Scotland, it's their right.
Likewise, if an English or Scots person wants to live and work in Wales, it too is their right, nomatter what some racists think!!

JOHN you really should come and live in Anglesey for a while, you really would have your eyes opened as to what some english people have to go through in this lovely part of wales..

What really gets to me is pillocks ranting on about english people trying to take over,
this is a free country,we can live wherever we choose ,does Dr Lewis really think all welsh people live in wales?the welsh colonised liverpool but nobody said anything about that, welsh like english live all over the world and are free to do so.

END OF STORY.

I have *thunk*

There really is nothing I can add to this thread now which will make one iota of difference to John's belief.

Firstly, nobody can second guess what someone’s opinion is today based on a 1968 article.

If he believes that there are NO extremists around today he is wrong. No they don't burn down properties anymore they just daub offensive grafitti on English owned or based businesses.

If he believes there is NO discrimination in Wales he is wrong. Just refer back to contributors’ personal experiences.

Holiday makers always welcome, he is wrong. (somewhat). Those of us who live here suffer the prices being hiked in the larger shops a few days before any school holidays start. At the end of each holiday period the prices do not revert to what they were before. Following a tourist around country roads at 25 mph whilst they wrestle with their sat nav or map then breaking suddenly to gawp at a sheep doesn’t do them any favours. You should read the comments in the local papers about tourists’ dogs fouling beaches!

However, when I was in business I loved ‘em..lolol

Wales is bi-lingual. One of those languages is English. Tolerance by those that demand to be addressed in Welsh would stop antagonism dead.

Finally, the view that English are trying to colonise Wales. We chose to live here because we love it. We also bought properties being sold by Welsh owners. If the majority opinion of the people of Wales is to keep Wales Welsh then why sell to incomers? The answer to that is self explanatory.

I have run out of any more sensible thought and I am in danger of resorting to insults so I am going to stop writing now..lolol

John, I really think you need to review your earlier post, with the reference to quote still my view and still the view of all the radicalised extremists unquote, so classing yourself as a radical extremist.....

Radical Extremism leads to Terrorism. Don't really think we want to see CTITF personnel yomping through Pwllheli or 'PontyP' ... or do you ?? :-|

Kay......can you explain what a Skeggy atmosphere is please....
I an at a loss to understand...Do you mean Skegness ...holiday Camp??
I love North Wales and the scenery is second to none.
Look at the beautiful estuaries, the mountains, the bays, and the lovely Victorian atmosphere of Llandudno, that even yesterday when I was there was humming with visitors enjoying the sunshine...though a bit breezy!

Conwy Castle recently had the most marvellous laser display on it and the whole town was so alive, the Honey Fair...there is always something going on around here.
We have no problems along the coast with bad feeling of language. Its mainly inland in the little villages that folk haven't moved around a lot .

I remember that a lot of little hill farms never had Electricity till TV came. Many was the time I had to wait while a pan was boiled over some sticks to make a cup of tea...but it was always accompanied by bread and butter cut from a home made loaf at the table..or maybe bara brith.which is a lovely fruit loaf. I also made it myself when I had my beach cafe...very popular.
There are a lot of special things in North Wales and lots for visitors to do with a different atmosphere to a lot of resorts in England.
How about the electric mountain at Llanberis, or the copper mines on the Great Orme in Llandudno,or the beautiful Port Meirion.I could add loads more.
4 years ago we had some Australian friends who came to stay with us as part of their World trip.....Japan.Thailand,London,Bristol ,Wales, then on to Tanzania where my friends son is a missionary.
Do you know the highlight of their trip.....the visit to Portmeirion.

I could go on.....we used to have a few problems ,but in 50 years I just remember the few instances that happened to me,it certainly doesn't detract to make you want to stay away!
We need the tourist trade as it is the mainstay of Welsh economy...although we do like to have it to ourselves at times!

I have been reading Dr. Lewis' words of wisdom written in recent years and trying to choose articles that would offer a balance to those from decades past that John copied.

There are so many I cannot decide which to add.
