Sue in Leeds. I do find your post to be racist and offensive. In Leeds, would you suggest that a Jew whose family came from Poland in the pogroms was not really a Yorkshireman because he did not have a 5 x gt grandfather from Yorkshire?
Would you stand in the middle of Pontypandy and tell locals (who often have a variety of names from all over the place because caol mining was pretty international) that they were not Welsh?

Jason Mohammed is a great Welsh broadcaster. As you may guess, his 5 x gt grandfather did not come from Bethesda. But we love him as a true Welshman.

Lynda that wasn't helpful :-P

Sue that's true to some degree but like it or not there are some very rude people like the archdruid living and breathing in small villages in west and north Wales.

When we sold the farm and found a house we wanted to buy the vendors had told all the hamlet that they would only sell to a local. They took our money pretty quick with the explanation that we were learners......lol

Edit happy new year Lynda :-D

Sue in Leeds. Bit racist, methinks. I did answer NO - was that too hard for you?

Danger Sue. How many who have contributed to this thread have changed their mind over the importance of the Welsh language in everyday usage? I bet no one has changed their opinion one iota.

And we are judging mainly on the store manager's account of the incident. I just have this vision of a pleasant old quite frail man leaving the stage in the Eisteddfod to invite the winner from the audience to accompany him back to the stage.

Struggling to match that vision with the vision of an angry old man bullying all and sundry and deserving to be arrested.

Well in that case if he can give it out his opinions then he should be accept anyone elses that disagrees with him. we are all entitled to our own opinions and should be able to express them as long as no T & C are broken and I havent seen any as yet. :-D

Actually - in case anyone hasn't noticed - this is turning into a "John thread" yet again. Ignore!!!

SueMaid Report 30 Dec 2012 22:45

I wouldn't presume to comment on the OP but I will say that as in any country where another language is spoken most people we have encountered in Wales are always delighted and appreciative if we have at least attempted to pronounce the names of the towns we have visited.

If he's *frail* enough to upset a young girl then he's *frail* enough to take the consequences....loathe folk who play the *poor me* card once they're backed into a corner......but it goes to show the kind of man he is that he even tried it.

John
All I wanted was a straight answer either YES or NO.

Not a load of your explanation.

My brother in law is Welsh brought up in Bethesda North Wales all his ancestors are welsh right back to his 5x great grandparents.
Now thats what I call Welsh.

Not someone who's father was from Wolverhampton which as far as my memory serves me is in England.

he was a stupid person as he could speak English as well as Welsh.also Pwllheli is mainly English speaking.

He was just an 83 yr ols bullie.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 30 Dec 2012 22:34

Unless it's part of her contract of employment..and as she was dealing in pound sterling..then I suspect she's free to ask for payment in either language rather than be dictated to by a high handed publicity seeking pedant.
