Still not caught the 19 year old. How he managed to get away is a mystery - just ran straight through police lines that had shot his brother. He reversed his vehicle over his brother apparently as he drove away. And they lost him!!!! :-0 :-0 :-0
The Governor of Massachusetts has lifted the curfew (or lock-down or whatever it was called) and people have been told to be vigilant. Not sure they need to be told.
Chilling photo of the bomb planted next to the young boy who died and his mother and sister who were so injured - and the younger bomber suspect is seen a few yards behind them walking away in a white baseball cap and a smile :-0

Suspect #2 in custody. Badly injured, but alive. Was hiding in Watertown on a small boat parked in a drive.
From the Caucausus area (Chechnya) and had been living in Massachusetts most of his life. Elder brother (one killed) had become a Muslim extremist recently but was not apparently part of any cell. Suggestion that brother #2 simply went along as accomplice to #1 (which will get him life imprisonment, not death penalty, if found guilty).
Boston can now begin to heal as a city. An unbelievably horrible event on Monday, when so many were having a wonderful day - collecting loads of money for charity.

apparently the elder one had just become a devout Muslim - wonder how Allah views the fact that a little boy was killed, his sister had her leg blown off and his mother sustained brain injury :-( :-(

Not Islam as vast majority of Islamists believe :-( :-(
This young lad had been bleeding for 4 days in this boat in the drive in Watertown. The police had checked the house and the boat.
After curfew (translation into American - lockdown) had ended late last night, the house owner went outside, saw blood on his boat, lifted tarpaulin and saw a motionless body below covered in blood. He then phoned 999 or whatever.
There was still a firefight before the suspect was apprehended - but I wonder how much he was able to fight back as he is in a serious condition (not life-threatening) but unable to communicate.

John I had to look this up. You mentioned death penalty.
There currently is no state death penalty in Massachusetts, life without the possibilty of parole being the only punishment for first-degree murder. The federal government prosecutes capital cases within Massachusetts, however.
On November 7, 2007, House lawmakers again overwhelmingly rejected a bill to reinstate the death penalty by a vote of 46 - 110. Two years earlier in 2005, the House defeated Governor Romney's legislation 53 - 100. Continue reading for a full Massachusetts history.

AnninGlos. Many thanks. It was said on Fox News that he would get death penalty if found guilty of murder and life imprisonment if an accomplice to murder. Think that will happen despite Massachusetts not having death penalty. Would a federal prosecution allow for capital punishment, or did Fox get it wrong :-S
Errol. Exactly the same happened last summer in Ely suburb of Cardiff. Man drove white van into several people, killing one and hurting several. Within hours a local man was trending on sites locally, who eventually had nothing whatsoever to do with this series of incidents. Interesting article, and something we need to be careful about in these days of instant comms.

Errol, My daughter is studying for her masters degree. Her thesis is based on social networking and the media. The media surrounding the dreadful events in Boston is exactly the type of situation that she is researching. She called it Trial By Facebook!
Yesterday, she spent 8hours logged iinto the Boston Police Scanners and watching the speed of twitter feeds resulting from it.
I know that she agrees with most of what's being said on the link that you posted. Boston PD did ask that members of the public refrain from tweeting all that they heard, but many tweeted regardless.

the wrong name was trending indeed - and who was it put that wrong name on these boards? and who was it said "move it quickly or you'll be in deep doo doo"
That case was due in court last week but the perpertrator was too ill to attend court

GlassgowLass I find it a fascinating subject and people do not realise how seriously it can impact on an innocent person or have an adverse affect on trials.
Your daughter has picked an excellent topic for her thesis - I would be very interested in her research!

John .................. The young suspect had not been hiding in the boat for 4 days
He had gone back to his university, and was seen around campus on WEDNESDAY night!
He was in the shootout early on Friday morning
He did run his brother over, and drove a shortich distance, but then he ended up on foot.
It is not known when he got into the boat ............... possibly before dawn on Friday morning
The police did not search the boat when they searched the house before the lock down was lifted.
The house owner went out into the back garden after lockdown was lifted for fresh air, noticed blood on the grass and that one of the ties holding down the tarp had been cut.
Suspect exchanged shots with police when they arrived .................. and it is believed that his major injury to the throat was caused by him shooting himslef in the mouth in a suicide attempt. Instead of killing him, the bullet exited through his throat.
He has been charged today with Federal charges of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction against persons and property, resulting in death. ......... a crime that carries a possible death sentence.
He is also likely to face state charges in connection with the shooting death of an MIT police officer
Terrorism is a Federal offense, and that overrides any charge that the State may wish to make against him.
Thus, the fact that Massachusetts has or does not have the death penalty is of no concern.
One other suggestion is that he deliberately ran down his brother to kill him ............ as Tamerlan was wearing an explosive laden vest, was thus considering himself to be a suicide bomber. He was on the ground handcuffed and surrounded by police when Dzhokhar aimed the car at the police. That is why some people think the car was actually aimed at Tamerlan

Thanks for that, Sylvia. The facts get more horrible as they emerge.
One new development I saw today related to these men arrested in Canada. Links to al Q'aeda and Iran. First time I think al Q'aeda had been linked to both main branches of Islam.
So my hope that Islamists and Islamic countries might control the spread of this radicalisation through what I believe is a fundamental misunderstanding of certain passages in the Q'ran begins to fade somewhat.
I am sure the vast majority of Muslims believe Islam is a peaceful religion - whether Sunnis or Shi'ites. But what damage a minority can achieve :-0 :-0

Sylvia has said all I intended saying about it now being a federal offence and thus the death penalty is possible. Just to clear up John what I said in an earlier post.

There will be many more conspiracy theories, I'm sure. And "facts" laid before us and before Court. But both these brothers admitted they had done it. The state of the body of Suspect #1 does indicate that Sylvia's info was correct.
And Suspect #2 allegedly tried to shoot himself through mouth when cornered and shot out his voice box (not the brightest spark in the box) - hence he is having to write everything down and nod and shake head at questions.
I still cannot understand how (quite badly injured in leg) he managed to drive away from scene and then could run and hide. Perhaps the police thought he was trying to lure them to explosives - so if they chased him or sent helicopters up to find him with heat recognition cameras, he would have arranged for them to be destroyed somehow. :-S

it's an FBI operation
I have a feeling, from what's been reported, that his brother was the main man and he was young and impressionable and just took orders from him so sadly he may not have the info the FBI really want
as an American citizen he can choose no to answer any questions - he has been "Mirandarised"

John
it is apparently NOT the first time that links between al-Qaeda and Iran have been noted ...............
it has been known for some time that remnants of bin Laden's group have been living in Iran.
Some are in a main city, some are believed to be living in a "ski resort city on the coast". I do not know what that latter means!
That was according to leading researchers into Iran and the al-Qaeda, based in both the UK and the US, as reported on the reputable (I believe you would agree) BBC World News
As for driving with "a badly injured leg" ..............
I'm not sure that we have ever been told how badly injured he was ..................... yes enough to leave bloody trails, but that can be a flesh wound.
It is quite possible to drive with a badly bleeding leg ........................ however, he also apparently did not drive very far. He seemingly ditched the car, and then moved around on foot ...................... and there have been no reports of the police following a blood trail.
It might be that he found a hiding place in that boat very early on Friday, and just stayed hidden.
Don't forget that the police shot many rounds into that boat .................. so some injuries could be a result of those.
I feel very sorry for the boat owner ................. apparently he was very proud of that boat, which was a pretty rare one :-(
