Nolls try the following (all single left clicks unless otherwise stated):

1. Click on the Start button and then Control Panel (right hand side of Start menu).
2a. If Control Panel is displaying by icons click on Device Manager.
OR
2b. If Control Panel is displaying by Category then click on "Hardware and Sound" and then on "Device Manager".
3. When Device Manager has opened look down the list and click on the little arrow to the left of "Keyboards".
4. You should then see something like "Standard PS/2 Keyboard". Right click on it and select "Properties".
5. In the new window that opens, click on the "Driver" tab at the top.
6. Click on the "Update Driver..." button.
7. In the new window click on "Search automatically for updated driver software".
8. Your laptop will now search for an updated driver and will tell you if your current one is up to date.

If you have a problem following these instructions just shout.

I'm following this with interest as my text jumps too :-|
I thought it was peculiar to my laptop model.
I wondered about the touchpad (which I don't use) but I haven't been able to disable it.

ok I'll check for the current correct driver for you (that's a little programme used to enable things like keyboards to work correctly)

I don't mind in the slightest.
That's the information I was after - you are not running XP, you are running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Leave it with me a mo

Incidentally, check that you are not catching your touchpad with the side of your hand or your thumb when you are typing - easily done.

Thanks for that - can you check which operating system for me please?

Right click on "My Computer" (either on the desktop or on the Start menu) and select "Properties". This should tell you which version of Windows you are using (you may need to click on the General tab depending on which version you have).

Hi Nolls from Harrogate.

A few questions for you:

What is the make and model number of your laptop?
How old is it?
Which operating system are you running? (ie XP, Vista etc)
Does the problem occur all the time - in other words is it just when using Internet Explorer , or is it also when using things like Word etc?

I wouldn't restore it back at this stage - that is not the get out of jail card that everyone seems to believe it to be.
If you can wait until tomorrow, I have a couple of options that I can talk you through.
