Phew Im still here after a horrendous nite!! wind reached 116 mph locally and amazingly through thunder, lightening and all that ,the leccy stayed on, well in this part. Never slept a wink the noise was deafening.

However went to work today and the electric went off at 9.45 and still hadnt come on when we left. School shut so not sure about tomorrow just have to wait and see.

GG glad you survived without too much damage.

Its been snowing on and off all day here but more like powder yet that is now frozen on the roads. Tem was -1,5 degrees just now so freezing hard.

To those its heading down towards stay safe.

just heard several thousand people in great yarmouth are being evacuated due to storm surges along the east coast. Hope all will manage to find somewhere safe to stay.

Off to put on an open fire now
Take care

I manged to get to work for a morning shift.
Wind died down about 10am and I ventured out on an errand around 11am.

I was going to a factory shop which is normally takes about 20 minutes by car.
After an hour and 15 minutes which involved a detour, I finally arrived at my destination.
The shop was closed today due to the weather!

Sadly, I have since discovered that my delay on the road was caused by an overturned lorry on the M74 and there are fatalities.
Very sad.

It is quite calm outside now..... but there are little snow flurries with heavy snow forecast for later in the day.

Our road is like a wind tunnel and it is recycleable rubbish day today. Had 4 bags to put out. Put two out at 7.30, came back in for other two and first two had disappeared like a magician's trick.

Still no rubbish collected at 12.35. Just went down and looked through front windows and stuff was whistling past at above 50mph from the top of the road, tins and bottles banging against the window. Looked out front door and down the bottom of the street and everybody's rubbish is in one big pile down there.

So easy for dustbin men, as they only need to pick it all up from one spot. But not so easy for buses to get through those piles of cans, bottles and cardboard.

ps Glad I am not in Hebrides, Florence. You are made of sterner stuff than us Southern softies :-) ;-)

was thinking of you Florence up there in the Hebrides, and it sounds bad for you in Glasgow too GlasgowLass - let's hope these winds die down soon - it's breezy here to say the least but mild compared with what you all have further North - stay safe :-) <3

Thank you Everyone,
I managed to sleep but my (23yr old) daughter never went to bed.
She couldn't sleep!
The wind is incredible at the moment. After tying most things down, a large garden storage box has just blown open and I watched as a large tarpaulin bench seat cover took flight and vanished within seconds.
Daughter is back outside with cable ties ect .

OOPS.... looks like our power could be about to go!
Lights are flickering

I do hope you both, and of course, all others keep safe and warm and in as much as you can, then stay inside until the high winds die down. Here in London it is as quiet as a mouse and not a breeze to rustle the chimney pots!

Stay safe <3

Oh Glasgow lass, you poor thing. Hope you will be ok. Could your daughter sleep in with you tonight? That way you might not feel so alone, but im not sure how old she is?

I dont feel scared up here simply because there are no trees or high buildings. most houses in this village are single storey or 1 1/2 no 2 storey houses. So apart from a roof going or the car flying away(they can have my old heap lol) there isnt much for the wind to damage. Its just the roar and the noise and of course if we lose power then its a nuisance.

Silly neighbours, we also have bin day tomorrow but they will not go out til the last minute so they can be brought straight back and be tied up.

Will be thinking of you
Take care

Florence,
I can't imagine what it must be like for you but I'm actually quite scared tonight!

OH is on a business trip. Daughter and I have been out and rescued as much as we can from the garden to stop it from blowing away..

Some ( rather inconsiderate) neighbours still put their wheelie bins out early this evening for a collection tomorrow.
The bin lorry NEVER comes before 2pm on Thursdays.
I can hear the bins moving around in the wind already.

The winds of Jan 2012 pulled my back garden walls down and that repair bill was in excess of £6000

I'm going to bed now.
Hopefully I will fall asleep before it gets any worse.

Stay Safe Everyone

Hello peeps, just to say stormy up here although max wind today was 70mph but set to increase to poss 90 after midnight.

No sign of snow but pretty cold.

probably the electric will go during the night but those of you on here can go on our local website and check out the wind speed!

Going to fill a flask and quickly wash and dry my hair whilst i have the chance.

Anyone around Aberdeen looks set to get it quite bad too.

Stay safe peeps

years ago, when I was newly married - we went on a camping holiday and bought one of those camping gas thingies - when we needed to put a new canister on OH started to do it and I said "Shouldn't you read the instructions?" to which he replied "I don't have to read instructions to do something like this" We then sat and listened to all the gas escaping after he threw it out of the tent and had to buy another!!! Men!!!

Regarding the wind - it's been a bit breezy round the turntables down these 'ere parts today!!!!

Wind has died down now, heres hoping that's it and tonight no thunder and lightening as didn't get a lot of sleep last night.

If you look at the website, lovely pictures of the northern lights taken just a couple of miles from here. :-D
