"I decided to take early retirement from my job in 2004. Some say that was the best piece of work I ever did!"

I just love your sense of humour, Dermot.:-D

Col, I know you are teasing. I thought Princess Anne was so great (honest). I would have melted at her feet. And then she married that bounder Phillips who used to talk to her in their horse box. If you actually met her, I want your autograph. :-) :-)

I met a very pleasant peer when I went for tea with Chancellor Kenneth Clarke in 10/11 Downing Street about 1990. Lord Taylor of Warwick. If anyone was destined to be famous, it was him. Young, slim very good looking, beautifully suited and spoken. One to watch. I kept catching my relefection in the mirror behind him, and we looked so similar. :-) Whatever happened to ......... :-S

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 26 Nov 2013 15:50

Had 6 goes, Wend. But who's counting?

Oh :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Dermots had thousands of goes. And his life is only slightly less boring than mine.

Also in my 50s I flew in a military helicopter (as a civilian)
I have my own car but hate driving so rarely do
I have five Grandchildren and one great Grandson. (Plus a little grandson was stillborn 13 years ago)
I have had a great life (so far) and my family are all great.
I have flown many many times but have never been across the channel by boat. (by choice)

What an interesting lot you all are..There is no way I can answer all your posts....but must say that as I was reading each and every persons post.....the words 'fancy that' ooooh.....No!.....never!.....you'd never believe it....and many more of surprise......passed my lips.......just goes to show one shouldn't make assumptions....not that I did :-D

here is one from me.....

An uncle of mine jumped 8 stories from the Cruddas flats in Newcastle.
in the 80s......I only found out after ordering his death cert. I often wonder if maybe he was pushed and would love it if someone, who lives nearer the Library than I, could pop in and see what was recorded in the Newspaper.

I took riding lessons and can ride

I can tap, ballet and fence (not stolen goods although I could probably do that better) after a fashion

I can´t play the piano regardless of 2yrs of lessons

I was married at 17 with a black eye (nearly 2) and a couple of broken ribs

I was a publican and ran away with a customer who is now my tomboy hubby

Wend

Wend Report 26 Nov 2013 17:56

. . . . . . and you married him with 10 black fingernails I believe! :-D

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 26 Nov 2013 18:49

I did Wend ..although they did have red and silver sparkles on them ..I think I kept a couple of them somewhere ! :-D

I have another to add
I am a useless gardener who if doesn´t get help will stock her garden area with plastic flowers

Wend

Wend Report 26 Nov 2013 19:10

Now you're telling porkies Uzzi - I saw your last garden and it was beautiful. In fact, I took several cuttings from a few of your lovely plants a couple of years ago and I have been putting the results (now well-established) in my greenhouse this afternoon :-D

A few more items to highlight my incredibly boring existence:

I never smoked cigarettes.

For 15 years, I cycled a 22 mile round trip every day to & from work, even though my office was only 3 miles from where I lived. I’ll leave it to John to work out this piece of Irish logic.

Dad regularly accompanied & allowed me to drive his Ford Popular when I was c12 years old.

He also taught me how to start the engine with a starting-handle. Great times!

As a young fellow, my dad drove trams in Manchester.

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 26 Nov 2013 19:41

Wend I didn´t bring all my garden with me, so I do need on site help :-D and I am a useless gardener as I can even kill plastic flowers.

Another unknown thing about me I once inherited from step mammy an over grown swiss cheese plant thing, which I gave her a cutting back and kept the ruddy thing until I gave it away because even I couldn´t kill it :-D

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 26 Nov 2013 20:09

Dermot :-D :-D That is a teaser. Would it be 3 miles as crow flies - and miles and miles round?

Or perhaps you had to visit a Marian shrine on way to work?

And my first car was a 1959 Ford Pop. 3 gears, 57mph top speed. Braking from 57-0mph took best part of a morning. Yes, Wend, have had another go ;-) Me and Dermot are vying with each other for most boring interesting facts.

I body-doubled for Cliff Richard on "Summer Holiday"
