What an interesting lot you all are..There is no way I can answer all your posts....but must say that as I was reading each and every persons post.....the words 'fancy that' ooooh.....No!.....never!.....you'd never believe it....and many more of surprise......passed my lips.......just goes to show one shouldn't make assumptions....not that I did :-D

here is one from me.....

An uncle of mine jumped 8 stories from the Cruddas flats in Newcastle.
in the 80s......I only found out after ordering his death cert. I often wonder if maybe he was pushed and would love it if someone, who lives nearer the Library than I, could pop in and see what was recorded in the Newspaper.

I learnt to swim when I was fifty
Also in my 50s I flew in a military helicopter (as a civilian)
I have my own car but hate driving so rarely do
I have five Grandchildren and one great Grandson. (Plus a little grandson was stillborn 13 years ago)
I have had a great life (so far) and my family are all great.
I have flown many many times but have never been across the channel by boat. (by choice)

"I decided to take early retirement from my job in 2004. Some say that was the best piece of work I ever did!"

I just love your sense of humour, Dermot.:-D

Col, I know you are teasing. I thought Princess Anne was so great (honest). I would have melted at her feet. And then she married that bounder Phillips who used to talk to her in their horse box. If you actually met her, I want your autograph. :-) :-)

I met a very pleasant peer when I went for tea with Chancellor Kenneth Clarke in 10/11 Downing Street about 1990. Lord Taylor of Warwick. If anyone was destined to be famous, it was him. Young, slim very good looking, beautifully suited and spoken. One to watch. I kept catching my relefection in the mirror behind him, and we looked so similar. :-) Whatever happened to ......... :-S

I survived life threatening cancer in 1948 and 1951 due to a wonderful caring consultant and radium needles.

I played piano with a jazz band at the cavern,,Beatles supporting group...late 50s early 60s

I was on a programme called People and Places on Granada TV when Corrie was just starting.disappointed with the set in those days..of course it was black and white and filmed live

I am left handed...got strap in school for this.

Have 9 grandchildren and 6 greats, but I was an only child.

5 more things to relate - try not to fall asleep.

1. I sang a duet with Daniel O'Donnel in our local church service c.1980 - that was long before he became famous. Unfortunately, I'm still awaiting my fame! Don’t tell me you’ve never heard of him!

2. I helped an aged corner shop owner to hold on to a young miscreant, who was trying to do a spot of shoplifting, till the police arrived.

3. I cycled 100 sponsored miles in 8 hours with a bunch of others - proceeds went to BHF.

4. A school pal joined the Irish Garda force & was subsequently shot dead by the IRA.

5. This chap's forebears were amongst the few who, in 1879, claimed to have seen an apparition of the Blessed Virgin at Knock, Co Mayo - now a worldwide recognised Marian Shrine.

my number five is that I lied about the other four :-D

But I am amazed at the interesting lives you have all lead and the family history.

I can't really think of much more about myself that I haven't bragged about before now....The GGGreat who was shot in 1715 uprising, the gggt who was disinherited leaving me a bit peeved cos they owned much of Durham and Northumberland, murderers! dukes ladies etc....and just so as not to disappoint you too much....I was going to be a nun :-)

ok.....I know of one that you don't know.......we won the competition this day, then also got 2nd and 3rd.......my eyes are blue and I have a great big grin on my face.

Am loving the stories though and would love to hear more......the truth though :-D
