	To expand on Elizabeth2469049 comments - There are massive sales in the stores on the Friday following Thanksgiving Day. This is on the 4th Thursday of November. In the past, the crowds have been so horrendous and frantic that people have been killed in the crush/rush. A couple of years ago one of our daughters visited the other over the period. The resident daughter flatly refused to go take her souvenir shopping on that day

	I saw this on the news too! As Asda is part of the US based Walmart group, they rolled out Black Friday in their UK stores. Chaos, fights and injuries!

	Dear Barry Hello Hope you are keeping well. Sounds more like a term used for economic crisis. Thanksgiving used to be a peaceful day for a meal with loved ones and remembering the generosity of the native americans given to the newly arrived pilgrims back in the 1620's. 	In the US it is the day after Thanksgiving Thursday, and marks the day when they all start Christmas shopping. I've never seen it used in a UK context before this year, we don't need any more festive triggers!

	When I heard Black Friday today it was in conjunction with Belfast and I had a panic as the only time I have heard of this expression was when over 20 bombs went off around Belfast on a Friday in the seventies. What a weird expression to use for shopping.
