I had had the phone for about a month ... long enough that using the old one was not an option as I had wiped it and was using it to test out software we write.

I did not have any special insurance just the standard deal. The phone (Samsung) kept switching itself off and would not accept calls (!). I just rang them up and made the claim, courier came and collected the old phone no drama at all.

This though is the interesting bit. I use a cloud back up service called SnapPea. Not only did it load back all my data, contacts, diary etc but also all the installed apps! I was amazed.

After seeing this I thought I had better insure mine. My Bank account includes free mobile insurance so took it up.....£50 excess but iphone was £100 :-0

At least this one should not get water damaged as two previous ones suffered :-D

All modern phones use the micro SIM - only PAYG cheapies are still new with the big SIM.

Having been in the same fix as Dizzie I tried using the small SIM on an old style phone using a plastic adapter ... didn't work. As I cannot work without the phone claimed for a new phone by courier - arrived in 24 hrs.

Old iPhones can new be found fairly cheaply.

It is fairly ez to synch all the data on the mobile phone with the cloud - Android, Apple and Microsoft phones all have this capability built in. Thus whatever happens to yr phone you can access the data. Just don't forget the login ...

Dizzi, is there any chance that they make an adapter for the small sim card so that it will fit in a larger phone? It might be worth asking.

I have recently changed phones to a micro sim and I am sure the old sim (same number) was cancelled when it changed over.

I also thought what would happen if this phone broke??

Edit - My old sim and phone just comes up no service.....but all my contact details are still on there
