Perhaps the Prime Minister should have heeded the advice of his Attorney General Dominic Grieve before making any public comments, if you or I had done this we would probably have been hauled before the judge for contempt of court ;-)

Jury told to ignore PM Nigella comments:-

The jury in the trial of two former personal assistants of Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi have been told to ignore comments made by the prime minister.

Judge Robin Johnson said it was a "matter of regret" when public figures commented on someone in a trial.

Keep this in mind when posting about a court case - for Nigella trial update see today's posting ;-)

I thought it would be a good idea to post this as I think I am correct in saying that this just does not apply to Twitter so worth keeping this in mind when posting on the boards.

Advisory notes from the Attorney General will be published on the gov.uk website and twitter from today to help prevent social media users from committing a contempt of court, Dominic Grieve QC MP has announced.

The advisories, which have previously only been issued to print and broadcast media outlets on a ‘not for publication’ basis, are designed to make sure that a fair trial takes place and warn people that comment on a particular case needs to comply with the Contempt of Court Act 1981.

The change in policy is designed to help inform the public about the legal pitfalls of commenting in a way which could be seen as prejudicial to a court case or those involved.
