Hi Gins sweetie, Yep! `her indoors` is fine thanks.
She's been through far worse than this incident over the last 3years
She`s also had me to put up with for the last 45yrs, and that's no mean feat in itself. ha,ha, bless her.

Sorry to ask...but where were you when her indoors left the building

Maureen

Her indoors was sat settled in her armchair looking out of the window awaiting the arrival of the police. So I went upstairs to log off and get a shower, that's when she decided to nip out and keep an eye out for these guys along the road ( pretty long fairly busy main road we live on), she didn`t think to inform me, she just went.

Just had a phone call police coming to take a statement within 15 minutes.

We have a 'beep Boo' on our door, it's linked to the alarm system

We never lock our doors, well we do when going out/to bed

I have heard of this a few times before and I applaud you OH for doing what she did!

An opportunist sees coats and bags slung over the bottom stair newel, ( or posh coat stand) and takes their chances.
A few years back a neighbour was entertaining friends who all left their belongings in the hall.
All pockets were rifled and every handbag was taken.... they needed only to take one step inside the house grab it all.

It was only a few months ago, that I was up late at night with one of my daughters.
My front door opened and 2 young men stepped inside.
As soon as we came into the hall, they started stuttering and stammering, claiming that they were looking for a friend? We didn't believe them.

We now keep our doors locked ( most of the time)

AnninGlos Report 7 Dec 2013 16:53

We always lock our doord day and night as there are so many walk in burglaries in most areas these days. If things are stolen and your door is not locked you invalidate your insurance.

We have safety chain Merlin, only used at night though. Ann, he just opened the door and walked in he couldn`t have knocked first or I would have heard it.
We only lock doors when we are out, or at night when no visitors are expected .
we can very easily see anyone coming down the front path no problem even whilst watching telly.
I`m surprised this guy got to the door without being spotted most unusual.
The next door neighbour (both our front doors only a few inches apart and front garden paths are parallel to each other) saw him but thought he was our window cleaner collecting his money.
Ahhh well .. Do we "have" to go around suspecting every person coming to the door is an opportunist thief? What a sorry world we live in aint it?

Edit:.. I should really know better I suppose, I do live amidst 4 large sink estates and it is coming up to Christmas.. (Nod wisely now after the fact) :-(

Jane Report 7 Dec 2013 15:19

Thank goodness she wasn't hurt and that she managed to push him back through the door.I hope both of the criminals will be dealt with severely ,but sadly I doubt it.
It is a terrible shock finding someone in your home .My daughter had the same and woke one morning to see 2 men coming up her stairs. He partner chased them back down and then discovered lots of their belongings outside on the patio. They were never caught ,but had been doing the rounds on that estate through the night .
One of the main things they seemed to be after was car keys to nick cars from drives :-S

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Dec 2013 15:05

How did he get in? did she open the door to him? Anyway, well done her, how dare these people think they can enter people's property.
