My OH has just spent around $150, or about £70, buying the stamps for the approximately 100 cards we send out at Christmas.

About 60 of those go overseas ........... at a cost of $1.85 under 30gm ........... or about £1

We cut back every year .............. if anyone has not sent us a card for 2 years, they come off the list.

However, it is the only time in the year when we have contact with most of these relatives and friends, and it is fun to catch up the events of the past year.

So I consider it well worth the money.

I miss them when they die off.

On reflection I don't think the cost of postage is that bad when you consider just what is involved in say sending a package abroad,

Just think what it would cost if you were to deliver your cards to various parts of the country yourself, mega pounds, so postage isn't so bad.

I have just given 28 cards to a friend who is going back to England to post for me. They are all stamped ready to be dropped in the box. I just hope they arrive in time. I always ask visitors to bring me English stamps over. Last year I sent 42 so I have cut down a lot. If I had to send them all from here at 78 cents each I would only be able to send to my immediate family.

At the moment we have very high winds and a storm is due starting tonight and lasting for two days. I have been outside battening down the hatches and will now just hope it's not as bad as predicted. At least when it is over it will be back to normal and warm and sunny again but with lots of clearing up!

I am afraid I have cut down this year on overseas cards . I used to send to Canada and the USA and Australia. Didn't always get cards from some I sent out even though they are still around so this year I didn't send to those ones .

Sent 2 to Canada and 1 to USA these cost me £1.18 each it send ,

Will email Happy Christmas to the ones I have email addresses for .

Cutting down to on UK ones .bought 20 second class stamps and theses will be used for our siblings I

Going to daughter for Xmas and we all going to grandson for Xmas day so will be taking their cards with me as like to get special cards that now cost a bomb to post as they are usually bigger than the norm .

Eldest grt grand kids are getting money so that will be in their special grt grand kids type cards given at present opening after dinner.

The heart is willing but the purse strings are getting tighter I am afraid

I always look for light weight things to send to Oz.
Cost me £20 for 2 very light Jiffy bags .
I have often bought things on line from Oz and paid for their postage,,but as its a more expensive country...it's swings and roundabouts...also not quite as personal.
You can't win! :-)

I will be joining you next year Ann - luckily I had bought so many 2nd class stamps before they went up - not only did I cover last Christmas but letters this year and cards!

I am out of stamps apart from 1st class 4 off. :-(

True Graham it isn't, but it was just the hike in the price that caught me unawares lol.

Gwyn in Kent Report 9 Dec 2013 15:49

Didn't cards to Europe used to be the price of a UK 1st class stamp?

88p now.

I sent 2 cards to Canada last week.
One was quite small, but on standard card from a charity.
That cost alot more than the other one, which had come out of a mixed box.
I spent over £24 in postage and stamps that day, but I do like to give and receive cards at Christmas, so just have to pay up.

£1.28 to send a card to the other side of the world doesn't seem to bad when you compare that to the cost of sending a card to somebody in the next town. ;-)

Rambling

Rambling Report 9 Dec 2013 15:42

at the cost of postage overseas :-0 :-0 £1.88 for a Christmas card containing an A4 letter to US, and £1.28 for just a card to NZ. It was a lot cheaper than that last year, and I thought last year was expensive !
