Thank you Gwynne for posting this thread and thank you everyone for your greetings and good wishes.
I'm just back from a leisurely family day at our daughter's house just a few miles away. Son was able to join us for a 'cold meat, salad and pickles' meal before going back on duty to help with the floods elsewhere in Kent, so I'm lucky to have seen all 3 children again this birthday.

Thank you everyone who has added kind messages since I posted.

Lynda, it's been another windy day here with yet more rain, but not so wild as the early hours of Christmas Eve, when our carport took off and was ruined.

We don't have any rivers near here, but the ground is so water-logged that more rain would have nowhere to drain, so there could be localised problems, but hopefully nothing like Yalding and Maidstone, where high river levels have caused so many problems.

Keep your wellies handy Gwyn! I hope you don't get any more problems with the wild weather. We have been lucky so far where we are, but as you say the ground is getting waterlogged and the water table is high here as it is. The field at the end of the garden is possibly going to be built on in a few years time, wonder where the water will go then with an estate of houses on, there are great puddles in the furrows now.


Take care and well done to your son for finding time in his busy schedule to see you on your birthday, I bet people are pleased to see him and his colleagues helping with the flooding.
