due to my butterfingeredness in trying to uninstall IE11
I managed (Ithink) to delete IE altogether............
however as I happened to have a google Chrome shortcut, I'm using that to access the net.

Apart from having to start over with bookmarks n things, it seems to work, BUT I continually get intrusive ads and popups, dropdowns and a GR survey, that I have been "Personally selected" to do.
is this normal, and can some one advise me of a way out to something more familiar?

It is impossible to remove ie from Windows. Go to c:\program files\internet explorer ( or c:\program files (86)\internet explorer) where you will see a file called iexplore.exe. The .exe extension may be hidden.

Select this file and copy it to the clipboard.
Then paste it as a shortcut to the desktop.
Voila internet explorer returns.

If by some curious chance you have indeed managed to remove the ..\internet explorer folder just do a repair installation and it the default version with yr version of windows will reappear on the desktop.

There is no refuge from Google ad tracking in Chrome though using the options tool it can be reduced. Firefox is a much better proposition. Install #26 add "AdBlock" and "NoScript" and enjoy a quiet life.
