Now I am wondering if I will have to buy a new ironing board as well.

As for the pocket, I don't have much money, having been on benefits for seven years nearly and OH being virtually unemployed at the moment, but I do believe that, if you buy cheap you buy twice, so I will go for the best I can afford.

There is a particularly good reduction on the Morphy Richards site at the moment and I have had extremely good customer service from them in the past so I will probably go for that if I do buy one.

You might find several offers on M R steam generator irons, namely around £100 off a Jetsteam...........at Curry's or Dunhelm Mill but they are still around the £79 mark, of course it all depends of the health of your pocket, or purse....

we use our generator on the iron rest part of the ironing board, bur if you feel safer with it on the table or floor........go for it!

IF you go for one with a detachable water tank, be careful, with a litre of water the tank weighs around 2.5 lbs drop it in the sink accidentally and it will shatter.....or split

you don't normally need to fill it to the line, your experience will show you how much water you need.......
BTW...............some DO have an element in the sole plate.........

I don't iron much but Fred mullers a lot of the washing and it does need to be pressed back into some semblance of a garment when he has finished with it.

He has actually filled the sofa with washing that needs ironing and I have finally started to feel guilty about not doing it, and thinking about wearing the clothes there, like having a whole new wardrobe, so much choice. We could use the sofa again as well!

The iron died of shock I think.

Must look at the mesh ironing boards too.

I bet I end up with another £15 iron from Tescos.

I forgot to say......
A steam generated iron should only be used on a "mesh style" ironing board for the steam to pass through, otherwise the cover would become soaked !

Sharron

Sharron Report 29 Dec 2013 13:27

What I am really thinking of is whether I can get Fred to do the ironing and clean the floors as well.

He has been known to Hoover, in fact, OH was pushing him round with the Hoover within a week of him coming home from hospital.

No peace for or from the wicked!

I keep the generator on the ironing board. ( I have a large size board)
I dont think my steam cable from the generator to the iron would be long enough to stretch from the floor?

Sharron
I also have a steam mop. They don't really last too long and mine gets replaced with the birthday candles each year too.
My current kitchen floor ( about to be replaced ) has matt, black laminate and the steam mop is the only thing that cleans it!

GlasgowLass.

Am I right or wrong in says that you keep the generator on the floor for safety and the iron on the board.

Friend has one and thats what she does with hers.

Thank you.

I am still considering and psyching myself up to part with money.

There is a steam mop on offer too. Does anybody have one of those?

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 29 Dec 2013 12:38

On average, over 20yrs I must have gone though at least 15 irons

I switched to a steam generated iron and have replaced it only once in the last 10 years
I would never go back to the old style

A steam generated iron doesn't have an element in the sole plate
Instead, the hollow sole plate is heated purely by steam being fed into it via the generator.
They are big and take up quite a bit of room but I wouldn't use anything else.

My first one had a calc filter which periodically needed to be replaced. ( quite expensive)
The current one has a built collection tool which simply unscrews and washes under the tap... a must if you live in a hard water area!

My iron has died of shock. It was traumatized when it saw how much it had to do since well, last year.

Anyway, I am looking on the Morphy Richards site because they have always given me sterling service and am wondering if I should invest in a steam generator iron.

I don't actually know what they are and was wondering if somebody on here could enlighten me a little before I have the anaesthetic needed to extract anything other than the smallest sum of money from me.
